My neighborhood, the rural stretch of New Scotland by the golf course. Country in the city.

My favorite neighborhood is DelSo - it's where I live now and I love it. I lived in Pine Hills most of my life, and I love it too, but if I had to pick my favorite neighborhood I would say DelSo.

The DelSo would be my favorite neighborhood in Albany! Moving to Albany from Chatham NY worried me.. I was little miss main street in chatham, and the threat of the big city was scary! However..... Moving on to Cuyler off Delaware proved my worse nightmares wrong! The
Main street vibe of the shops, eateries and the people have made me feel at home even in the big city!

Lark Street & Washington Park. Love the vibe and the ability to have great picnics on nice days. Plays in the park along with other events really make this area unique.

My favorite neighborhood is downtown Troy, specifically in the summer during the farmer's market. What Troy has done to make people really ENJOY TROY is just amazing. There are so many new shops and eateries! There is so much to do! I can't wait until it gets nice out again!!

Troy's upper Pawling Avenue is really pretty and quiet, really stands out from the rest of the area.

Emerging "Warehouse" district, some of the best bars and a ton of potential

This is my favorite neighborhood because I love my son's school (DCS), the restaurants and walkable indie theater, a park in my backyard, and proximity to a little nature at the Normanskill. Less exciting by very handy is the proximity to 787. Plus I love my little house, awesome neighbors, and living on a street that is quiet enough that I can let my cats out. Pick me! Pick me!

Mine would have to be downtown Schenectady. Still not a lot in the way of shopping but a growing sense of community. Our communal living room--Proctors. The Greenmarket, great restaurants. A nice place to be!

Um...give me a minute...let me think for a second...I'm going to have to go with...
DelSo!!
I love that I can walk to the area's best movie theater, terrific restaurants, a library, great Italian markets and delis, a pharmacy, a bakery, the most awesome cheese/gourmet shop, a friendly dog park, an ice cream place that reminds me of Cape Cod and a handful of public schools. My neighborhood rocks.

Downtown Troy! Because of the farmer's market, Brown's, Dino BBQ, Riverfront park.

What neighborhood? Washington Park. Why? Washington Park.

DelSo of course! For all of the reasons you listed and many more!

I love downtown Troy. It has so much character and lots of great food... though my favorite restaurant is New World Bistro, so Delaware ave gets a lot of love.

I live in the Center Square area, and while I like the buildings, I have to say I like the Delaware community much better - more geared for people living there versus people coming in to go out for the night.

I love Winchester Gables with all the little Spanish-influenced houses. It also happens to be where I grew up, so it always feels like home.

Buckingham Lake area! Great area for both young and old, and excellent for a stroll or run!

I'd go with all of Downtown Troy, but I'll be specific:

The 2nd & Broadway neighborhood in Troy. It has the best restaurants and bars and homes that are to die for.

(I also love my Eastside, but we don't have any great pickings for eats....looking forward to Cafe Congress which will be close enough at .8 miles from my house)

i love center square because i can walk to great restaurants, price chopper, my friends apartments, and washington park!! certain areas are bustling, while other blocks seem hidden. love my small city neighborhood!

The area around Lark Street is still my favorite area...sure, it's loud and crazy at times, but it's very dynamic, with a great selection of shops and restaurants. To top it off...it is close-by to some other nice areas on Central and Delaware (as New World is my favorite restaurant in the area by far!)

Pine Hills. I love being walking distance to so many great new places - ie: The Point, Madison Pour House, and soon Tierra Farms retail store!

I would definitely have to say the Madison and Western split, there's so many great restaurants and good bars along that strip! As well as the new and improved Madison Theater, and my favorite tattoo parlor The Dead Presidents Lounge!

Washington park area. It's so pretty once it finally gets warm out, especially with the tulips! It's nice to have such a large park in the city.

As a resident of Delso, I love the fact that I am one minute away from the the best movie theater in Albany. I am also right around the corner from some of the best restaurants in Albany that offer any ste of cuisine you want. There is a huge cultural range of families in our neighborhood which adds to is vibrant attitude. We also have the Normanskill preserve that include nature trails at our back door. There's nothing you can't get here, from fresh baked bread, to fresh meat.

My favorite hood in the Capital Region is the Sycaway area of Troy behind RPI. Lots of gorgeous homes, little quiet nooks, and some beautiful natural areas.

The Delaware South neighborhood for sure. I live in Schenectady and WISH downtown Schenectady was as good.

I've been going to the Spectrum Theater since I was in high school at Albany High (1986-1990). I used to scoop ice cream at the Friendly's on Delaware Ave.

So much awesomeness has happened in the neighborhood since. I still love going to the Spectrum. Other favorites are Mingle, New World Bistro Bar, Sweet Basil, Cardona's Market, and Emack and Bolio's.

Whenever there's a special occasion we're usually celebrating in that neighborhood. I just celebrated my 42nd birthday with dinner at New World Bistro Bar after seeing The Grand Budapest Hotel at Spectrum!

Delaware ave neighboorhood! Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Downtown Troy is still one of my favorite areas. Growing up in the Burgh, then being employed at RPI for the last 10 years, it's been really interesting (and gratifying) to see it coming back bit by bit. Only in Troy can you see such a mix of the boutique, the coffee shop, the eclectic, and the gritty. And truly, we boast some awesome eats, a pretty decent farmers market, a few events worth checking out such as Troy Night Out, the Stroll, etc., and our historic district continues to leave an impression for some reason! ;-)

My favorite neighborhood - upper Madison in Pine Hills. I love the location to the highway, and all the the area has to offer - movies, grocery store, library, restaurants, Buckingham Pond, on a bus line, and lovely homes.

My favorite Capital Region neighborhood has to be Center Square! So many things to do crammed super close together! Art, culture, great food, and the best nightlife in Albany will probably make this a popular choice. Plus, there are so many of my lovely friends living right by the action and each other. Pine Hills makes a nice second place for a more relaxing day/evening with the new Madison Theater, Tierra Coffee Roasters, Madison Cafe, etc.!

My favorite neighborhood is Center Square in Albany. I used to live on Jay Street and although it has changed a bit, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I had so many amazing times there-so many great walks, meals, stoop-sitting, nights spent bar-hopping, Larkfests, Tulip Fests...There was always something going on even when there wasn't.

DelSo because of Cardona's, NWBB & The Cheese Traveler.

Colonie, by the high school... It's a central location to restaurants and the mall, but the nearby Crossings are a great place to walk/run and enjoy the outdoors

DelSo is terrific, but I've got a thing for Downtown Troy. With many walkable amenities, bars, restaurants, the farmers market, the riverfront -- it's really tough to beat.

My favorite neighborhood has to be Pine Hiils - but specifically North Pine Street (the block between Western and Lancaster), where I lived for a year when I was 17. I still have dreams of that wonderful house (I wish I had been able to buy it when it came up for sale years ago) and of walking over to the Madison Theater - it was still one magnificent building then -watching a movie for a buck or two, and going to Farfield's for a 35 cent draft...(that's the Madison Pour House now, and it think it's a little more expensive!) I love that Tierra Roasters is reopening the old Clapp's stationary.
Pine Hills will always feel like 'Home' to me.

Does Central Avenue count as a neighborhood? I love the diversity of the street. You could go to a mosque, eat Chinese food, and buy a car -- all on one street! It's one of the most interesting streets in the Capital Region.

Center square; though it's been some time since I lived on Hudson Ave. ( between Dark & Love St. ) my love affair w/ Albany centers on Lark St., Washington Park w/ great memories from QEII

My village of Schuylerville neighborhood. We're within walking distance to the parks, libraries, fantastic Mexican food, small grocery and the post office. Our block even has annual summer and winter gatherings to promote community.

Lark Street- great energy!

Well apart from the area that you pointed out, which I do love, I LOVE the little cute strip of Troy where Market Block Books is and all those really cool local stores and the coffee shops and its so perfect. Especially during the Vicotorian Stroll! But I really like it there :-)

Pine Hills/Melrose neighborhood in Albany. Cute houses and still in walking distance to restaurants and bars.

Downtown Troy... with some new additions over the past few years, Lucas Confectionery, Finnbar's and The Whistling Kettle (just to name a few) joining Dinosaur BBQ, Browns and LoPorto's, it is a perfect place to walk along the revitalized riverfront area and ENJOY TROY!

New Scotland Ave in Pine Hills - different restaurants to fit almost any craving (Gastropub, Midtown Tap + Tea Room, Graneys, Sake Cafe, The Fountain), lots of Med/Pharmacy/Law students milling around, dogs and babies in strollers walking by -- the whole area wakes up in the spring time and I love it.

I also love DelSo. Also downtown Troy!

It has to be Delaware South, which is where I live and which contains within its borders pretty much everything I need, from cheese to coffee to movies.

The Delaware Ave neighborhood for sure. It just keeps getting better

I live in Troy and love nearly everything about it, but I have also lived in almost every Albany neighborhood and will never have good times like I did in my misspent youth kicking around Washington Park and Center Square. The park itself on any day, the festivals, the cheap eats, and the people.....we had a time.
PS This is one hell of a prize package!!!

DelSo! That's where we live and it's awesome!

Center Square and Lark area - definitely miss living there and being able to roam around Lark!

My favorite neighborhood is Center Square. Diverse residents, excellent restaurants, great bars, and the park, Art on Lark, Larkfest, Tullip Fest, Close to everything, I love living here.

Thrilled with the growth and revitalization of the New Scotland Avenue corridor!

Center Square--the walkability can't be beat, and add in Washington Park, proximity to great CDTA service, downtown, grocery stores, etc . . . pretty hard to beat, lifestyle-wise.

We're in the Helderberg/Crestwood neighborhood. It's beautiful, with 1940s brick homes and walking distance to DelSo and Buckingham Lake.

I love the DelSo. Great movie theater, awesome restaurants (including an awesome ice cream shop) and a cool library. It just keeps getting better. It includes the perfect combo of dinner at New World and a movie at the Spectrum next door.

My favorite capitol region neighborhood is Saratoga Springs. It's a great gem and just a short drive from Albany. Although I can't imagine ever being able to afford to live there, I love strolling past the well-kept Victorian houses, looking into the windows of the cute shops (like the one that sells only paper and paper-related products!). I look forward all winter to being able to pop into Eugenio's for delicious (yet pricy) gelato on a warm day, having a brunch of fried chicken and waffles with sweet tea at Hattie's, treating myself to a cocktail at Bailey's, and trying many of the other tasty restaurants and eateries the area has to offer!

And, of course, there's track season, where I can perfect my technique of selecting horses based on name (horses whose names have something to do with cats are usually the best) . Also, Saratoga provides an excuse to wear pastels and an oversized hat...sign me up!

Washington Park. Can't wait to get out there soon to check out the tulips!

Buckingham Pond hands down! Quiet, diverse housing, walkable streets, the wildlife and nature around the pond, fishing, picnicing, walking, running, etc. Additional benies include summer walks to Pine Hills to take in The Point's al fresco dining and a film at The Madison Theater or coffee at Tiera Coffee Roasters.

While it may not be a full-fledged neighborhood, I am in love with Madison Place.

My favorite neighborhood is Center Square--love the park in every season.

I've thought of moving a few times because I love so many! First these days might be downtown Troy around Monument Square and along River Street, followed closely by Center Square/Lark/Washington Park (is that one?) and Delaware Ave. I love it around here!

The Congress Park/Broadway area of Saratoga Springs. Such a great place to spend the afternoon. Shops nearby, great architecture and the park is a blast!

Kenholm gardens in Delmar. Young and old mix with old Delmar homes and newly built ones. The neighborhood centers around the community pool where residents can ride their bikes or walk to. Very friendly and welcoming.

Downtown Troy because I love a sunny Saturday at the Farmer's Market.

Ballston Spa, lots of "gems".

Troy's historic downtown neighborhood. Their are so many fantastic and unique boutiques and cafés. Not to mention a striving arts culture and one of the best outdoor farmer's markets. And the icing on the cake is that the entire district is pedestrian-friendly. It's a very walkable part of the city with amazing architecture to soak in while strolling about.

I don't know that the Willett Street/State Street portion of Washington Park technically qualifies as a neighborhood (other than in my mind and heart, the Central Park "West" of Albany) or simply a subset of the larger and surrounding Center Square, but there's nothing better than picnicking across the street when its warm out and walking to Shogun without crossing any streets.

Nobody has said downtown Saratoga Springs? Granted, I should qualify that by saying, "in the off season."

It would be lovely, if dangerous, to live walking distance from Mrs. London's croissants (not to mention all the restaurants and nightlife). And not just the fancy places either.

Plus it has good schools. You know, for kids.

Sure, it's on the fringes of what some people consider the Capital Region, but I think it totally counts.

The DelSo neighborhood is nice, but I'd have to go with the Helderberg neighborhood as the one that's most up-and-coming. We've got the typical Stewarts and Tanning salons, but we also have The Gastro Pub, The Fountain, and the little Asian -fusion restaurant. Get your wine, your burger, and an ice-cream cone at Stewarts! It's a happy evening date.

Center square, lark street, because of the great memories, the diversity, bombers, architecture, history, etc.

I have to say, since moving to Troy 2 years ago, it is quickly becoming my favorite home in the Capital Region. New restaurants and stores are opening every day... It's an exciting place to be!

Center Square - There is much to do in that section of the city, and in the warmer months, one can take a short stroll to the DelSo neighborhood or upper Madison/Pine Hills.

Definitely Saratoga Springs is my favorite place to hang out. The winter months without the Kettle corn guys was hard, but we made it through.

Warehouse district! They have my favorite palaces to drink in albany along with more coming soon.

We live in an amazing neighborhood of Saratoga Springs. Lits of families, great neighbors, and a short walk to the heart of town.

Lark Street with Washington Park. Fun events like Lark Fest & the Tulip festival showcase how vibrant and wonderful Albany can be!

Downtown Troy. Breakfast at Spillin the Beans, a new book from Market Block Books, and a wander through the farmers market.

Center Square - when the weather is nice it's so social and friendly!

Lark Street. I've lived here for the past 6 (almost 7) years and there's always so much to do. Washington Park, the plaza and downtown are all easily walkable.

Pine Hills:

It has an interesting mix of residents from college kids, young professionals and graduate students and families. The neighbor is dynamic and has a lot of cool places from Gingerman and Madison Cafe to new places like Bread and Honey.

Upper Washington Avenue- a great palce to live and very near to parks, shopping and restaurants.

Starting to fall for the area near State, Jay and Lower Union street in Schenectady. Tons of great little shops and restaurants!

Lark St area. Larkfest, Bombers, Tulipfest Lights in the Park

The delso is hands down my favorite neighborhood in Albany. It's the perfect mix of city/suburbs and I can walk to the Normanskill in 15 minutes. Plus, I have the greatest neighbors anyone could ask for.

New Scotland Ave area - several fun bars/restaurants. Also, a great area to run

Downtown/market district in Troy. Because, duh, everything (almost). Would be nice to get monument square fixed back up though.

I like Altamont, its got the small town feel within driving distance of the city.

I like downtown Schenectday; the library is nice, and so is the architecture.

The Pine Hills neighborhood because it so wonderfully walkable. You can have brunch at Cafe Madison and dinner at The Point and a movie at the wonderfully restored Madison Theatre. You can walk to the New Scotland neighborhood shops, libraries and enjoy Buckingham Pond. The Pine Hills neighborhood has it all !

The Melrose neighborhood is one of my favorites. There are so many beautiful houses on such cute little streets! And it's right next to my other favorite neighborhood, Pine Hills. Madison Theater, Tierra Coffee, Pour House, Cafe Madison, etc... you can't go wrong!

The Ten Broeck Triangle. St. Joseph's and its park are so beautiful and I love the whole feel of the neighborhood (being able to stroll two blocks to Pearl St. and the Merry Monk doesn't hurt either).

I have lived in the Helderberg neighborhood for over 13 years and never considered moving, I really love it. It's my favorite neighborhood for the walkability, location in Albany, diversity and nearby conveniences. But I also love the warehouse district, center square, delsol, Washington park and downtown Troy.

It is Pine Hills for me - easily walkable and has everything I need.

Mine! Downtown Troy.

The Mansion neighborhood, for housing me. Even when I moved, I could only stand to move one block within it, not out of it.

I've been enjoying learning my way around Troy.

I love the timelessness of Center Square and am especially grateful to the Albany Historical Society for the plaques on each building that give details about the year it was built and its first residents.

I have lived in the Mansion Neighborhood, Center Square, and Pine Hills. I frequent DelSo and New Scotland as well. All great areas for different reasons, but Mansion is my favorite. It's an eclectic mix of people that live there and a vibe that can't be found anywhere else, that is a little offbeat. It's also close to great restaurants, Lincoln Park, NYS Museum/Plaza/Egg, Times Union Center, just name a few things that are an easy walk.

I really like walking around downtown Saratoga for the nice shops, restaurants, and Congress Park.

Center Square; I love the community feel!

The neighborhood building up around the Troy Farmers Market has really grown on me. I love spending Saturday afternoons there once the market goes outside!

I'd have to say the downtown area of Schenectady. Proctors is host to so many wonderful events, plus the restaurants that are within a half-mile radius (I'm looking at YOU Marotta's !) are absolutely amazing.

Buckingham Lake/Marion Ave/Manning Blvd - great walking neighborhood with some of the nicest houses in Albany

I have a lot of fond memories about living in Pine Hills... being able to walk to the grocery store, bars, restaurants. There's a lot more now than when I was there... I miss it now that I'm in the suburbs!

Delaware Ave is quickly becoming one of my favorites too with all of the new businesses down there to go along with old establishments like Cardona's. I wish All Good Bakers was still around though.

I currently rent an apartment near Washington Park. If I could buy a house, it would be in the Helderberg or New Scotland Neighborhood. Mainly so I could walk to Gastropub for dinner every night.

Del So...for everything you listed above. I don't know what I would do without the Spectrum and everything around it. NWB, Emack and Bolio, Ultra Violet, xoxo

The Albany Pine Bush - even though it's not technically a neighborhood (unless you're an animal), it's still one of my favorite parts of our city :)

I absolutely love the Lark Street area and have ever since I moved here 11 years ago. In the summer, grabbing a bite and then enjoying a show in the park, or just a nice walk. There is always something to do!

Downtown Troy near Monument Square during outdoor farmers markets in the summer! Nothing like strolling downtown for fresh produce in the warm sun.

Center Square- love Washington park and just wandering around Lark.

Spring's (momentary) arrival reminded me once again why I love living in the Washington Park neighborhood. There's so much excitement and life everywhere thanks to runners, loungers, picnickers and, you can't forget, dogs. Of course, being a hop, skip and a jump (not even) from the fantastic bars, restaurants and shops on Lark & DelSo doesn't hurt.

The New Scotland neighborhood in between the hospitals. It really feels like a city within the city here. I used to live in the Melrose neighborhood which was also very nice, lots of families.

The area near the Madison/Western "point" - Good eats, movies, Steamer 10 Theatre, Pine Hills Library, fantastic gardens sprinkled around median, library, elementary school, etc.

DelSo, of course!

My favorite Capital Region neighborhood is the heart of Delmar. There are so many great restaurants…I love The Perfect Blend Coffee House and I love going to their Saturday morning Farmer’s Market…especially in the summer.

The Ten Broeck Triangle because it is so intimate, friendly and walkable to downtown!

Center Square - walkable to Washington Park and some great vegan-friendly restaurants!

New Scotland down by Cap Hills! I also love the Buckingham Lake area in Albany.

I'd say it's Washington Park/Center Sq in Albany - because of the all of the activities and diverse crowds. And downtown Troy with it's waterfront - historic district with many up and coming venues.

Having lived in Albany back in the 80's and seeing some of the last shows at the old Delaware, I think the development of DelSo has been great. But for me, my experience ofSaratoga Springs has been newly revitalized by both Criterion Cinema (it's not the Spectrum but so far it is providing a broader range of films than the mall) and Northshire Bookstore. I like visiting other neighborhoods, but I love my walks to downtown.

I love the lark street/ center square area but the delware ave neighborhood is also pretty cool. I love all the local shops and all the different types of people that come through the area usually go through these two places so you get a chance to see and meet all kinds of people

I'm into the emerging 'Warehouse' district--great places to have enjoy a bit to eat or a drink, and the Silver Fox Salvage is so much fun to pick through! It's really cool what's springing up in Albany!

New Scotland Ave between the hospitals... great restaurants and bars (Graney's Midtown Tea & Tap, Gastropub, Sake Cafe, The Fountain, etc). They even have froyo now, yes! I love that it's very walkable, a little more quiet than Center Square, but walkable to Washington Park and the goodies on Lark. It's a great little neighborhood.

Crescent/Berncliff/Home Represent, interesting architecture, light traffic, wooded backyards.

Downtown Saratoga especially after a winning day at the track. The place is so alive!

Definitely downtown Troy! I can easily spend a whole Saturday just enjoying the farmers market, having a great meal and doing needed errands. It's very walkable, and the architecture is great! Then there's nothing better than relaxing on Dinosaur's patio!

I like the river street troy area. I live in center square and I think troy has better bars and shops.

Downtown Troy, All the shops, variety of food, coffee, farmer's market!

I like Pine Hills. There are restaurants within walking distance from where I live, plus many nice areas to take a nice stroll, without some of the noise that would come with living further downtown.

DelSo

Center square/Washington park!

Saratoga Springs in August. Need I say more?

The Madison and Western intersection has great restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner and great bars!

2nd street in troy. Beautiful collection of historic buildings and good vibe there now.

Center Square. For many reasons. There's always an interesting building to look at to name one.

Downtown Troy (The Arts Center is A+)

Downtown Troy! I enjoy the Farmers Market every Saturday and the great dress shops.

DelSo is my favorite neighborhood to vacation to, but I prefer to live in Center Square. closer to more

going to echo the masses and say downtown Troy. I fell in love when I spent some time in the shops along River Street and bought a t-shirt from Troy Cloth and Paper. And then when Finnbar's and the Confectionery came in... man. Smitten.

I like the Lark Street area. It has a good mix of cool stores and great restaurants. DelSo is a close second though.

best drawing ever!

I like Center Square as I like the urban feel.

The New Scotland Ave area. Beautiful, quiet neighborhood with some great restaurants and a short walk to other great neighborhoods. DelSo is a great neighborhood, too.

DelSo. I grew up there on Marshall Street. My memories are wonderful being a part of the DelSo neighborhood. It was and is so close knit. In my day there was Awads Grocery Store (now Prinzos Bakery) they had the best penny candy a kid could ask for. Also, Delaware Pharmacy, you felt like a member of the Strosberg family when you went in. And the St.,James Bazaar held every September. Rides, prizes and the best homemade pizza in the world made by the neighborhood Italian moms. These are just a few reasons DelSo was, is and will be a great neighborhood for years to come.

Can't beat Center Square near the park.

Downtown Troy! Everything is walkable, so many great shops, restaurants, bars, and the farmer's market of course!

Delaware Ave. I moved to Albany in 2008 to an apartment just off Delaware Ave. I have only moved once and it was across the street. New World, Tierra, Spectrum, Elbo Room (best wings in the city, Elbo Room deserves a little love), Delaware Branch of the Public Library, Sunny Mart (they round up every item in the store rout to the nearest quarter), the view of the Plaza from Lincoln Park. All the block needs is ONE MORE bar. Will someone please open one more bar on the block?

Hmm... out of a hat or is the selection a judgement call?

I'm going with..... Pluck Hollow. so named because the poor people who lived there, would rummage for meals among the ''plucks'' -- discarded hearts, livers and lungs -- at the slaughterhouses.

How awesome must that place have been. "Welcome to Pluck Hollow! Want something to eat? A cow's heart.... hmmm... Now, I remember seeing one around. Oh yes, over here. Been in the sun for a while, is that ok?"

Lark Street/Washington Park is my favorite because I live there and also because many of my friends live nearby. Much of what I want and need is just a short walk away.

The Pine Hills neighborhood is my favorite. I have lived in this neighborhood for 5 years and have no plans to move out. It is the best due to its central location, nice restaurants, walkable sidewalks, and youthful vibe.

Hands down, DelSo. We've lived there for a few years and just bought a house there. I love it!

Pine Hills is a win for me. The restaurant scene just gets better and better, the Madison Theater is back in swing, and crime has been on the decline. Granted, West Pine Hills is fantastic, once you head more east things get a little dicey with the neighborhood.

I grew up biased against Troy, but more and more I find myself enjoying my weekends in downtown Troy - I can't wait for summer activities down by the Riverfront!

Downtown troy and more specifically monument square/farmers market area. I love all the local businesses especially anchor no 5 and market books. Awesome area!

Around the uptown UAlbany campus, where I make my home now! Uncommon Grounds, walking the campus, Writer's Institute events...

My favorite neighborhood area in Albany is Washington Park - I love all of the different apartments and houses that surround the park. The architecture is all different and appealing in its own way.

Center Square... but really, Crisan and Flow From the Garden... ;) Delicious desserts, and friends... what more could one want from a neighborhood?

Love the downtown Troy area for walking around - great mix of restaurants, shops, bars, and art!

For food I luv Del So! New world and Mingle are my faves!,

Delmar! Sidewalks, a real town center, a dense community, good schools. Moving here was one of the best decisions we've ever made.

It's a close call between DelSo and Center Square, but I'd have to pick DelSo because of the awesome library, great movie theater, and my favorite restaurant New World. It's come a long way!

Melrose. Because it's quiet.

Lark and the Park, something there for everyone!

I love calling Center Square my home. Such a wonderful, walkable neighborhood with easy access to so many great things.

I know it sounds weird...but it's where I live in Latham...I am close to everything...and almost all the places listed in the comments above are easily accessible. Plus, kids can play on the streets, we don't have parking issues.

Although I reject the foolish-sounding "DelSo" name, the Delaware Area is the best. It's where I grew up, and it's a mixed-use neighborhood that gets it right and has gotten it right for awhile. It is walkable and replete with good restaurants and other amenities, but not overrun with eateries and bars like Center Square or Lark.

Pine Hills - love all the restaurants, and the fact that it is so walkable. Also love the broad range of ages who love there.

Hard choice but I have to say The Ten Broek Triangle - historic, quiet, beautiful, and close to downtown. What more can you ask for in a city.

Del So is a great neighborhood as well. Love how much it has changed within the last few years to be more of a "Main Street" feel.

Downtown Troy!

Downtown Troy! Picturesque, walkable, drinkable, foodie friendly & yea, a little weird (it's the people!).

I'm with the Warehouse District voters. Love sitting outside at Wolff's in the sunshine with an ice-cold Franziskaner and a plate of wurst, enjoying the weather.

New Scotland, near the Fountain

i hope you don't score points for unique answers. my favorite local neighborhood is also downtown troy.

DelSo - best of everything.

Center Square - Lark Street is the best street in the city.

Downtown Troy - it just keeps getting better.

The Helderbergs are awesome - close to everything but far away at the same time. Center square is so on top of each other, Helderbergs are close but also quiet.

I like uptown by Lark Street and Washington Park because there is always so much to do!

My favorite neighborhood is in McKownville, it is walk/short drive from everything and the houses are super cute and the people are very friendly

I'll have to say the Pine Hills area and the area around Buckingham Park. I love riding my bike and running through there. I lived in the Upper Madison/Pine Hills in and and after college @ Saint Rose, I'd love to live there again!

I really enjoy the Mansion District. There's everything you could really need--bodega, wine shop, laundromat, Betty Boop's, Cupz. And it's cheap.

The DelSo is a wonderful area to call home; close to good movies, and convenient to the highways!

DelSo and here's why. I live in Delmar. I am not a Delmartian. I am not a suburbanite. I am living in a suburb. Having Bake for You, Cheese Traveler, Spectrum, NWB, etc. nearby keeps me sane.

My favorite neighborhood is Latham. It has a variety of things to do, places to shop, and isn't super congested with traffic. Plus, it has great access to the highway for farther adventures. Also, it's a short drive to Albany or Saratoga.

Lark Street/Center Square.
I miss living down there so badly. I've moved from downtown to the North Country two years ago and now I work on Lark Street. It feels like home.

My neighborhood, Helderberg. Great mix of people, walking distance to Ragonese Imports, Midtown Tap and Tea Room, Gastropub, CVS, etc. Love it.

My favorite neighborhood is definitely DelSo. New World Bistro Bar is my/our all-time favorite restaurant!! My husband and I also love the Spectrum!! It is such a unique area with tons of great offerings and we are grateful for all of them!!

Mansion district because the houses are so old and gorgeous!

DelSo! Because of the fooooooooood!

Lark Street!

DelSo!! It's great to see my neighbors on her representing. I love it here because of its diversity. Just this Saturday doing yard work and walking the dog I heard NPR Morning Edition, 70s funk, the Greatful Dead, gospel, traditional music from Ghana, and salsa. Kids still play hide and seek in the street, you can walk to just about anything, everyone is pretty dog friendly, we are home to kimchi fries which are epically genius. also you can still get a 2 pack of knock off Dutch Masters at Delaware News for .99! The neighbors are great and the neighborhood is quiet at night. DelSo is an all around win.

Buckingham Pond neighborhood - beautiful, peaceful setting, close to everything you need!

There's a special place in the south of Lansingburgh, that as far as I know, is known only to me, Mr Featherdyke of DMV, and, of course, the Hosta Lady. Returning to the area after many years abroad with Captain Twink and his disastrous expedition following a lone wooly bear across the Ustyurt Plateau, I found that my Tajikistan driver's license did not convert into a shiny new New York one. Take the test again, they said at Troy DMV where I like to hang out anyway. The Hosta Lady owned a Daimler six-seater open touring car which we drove over to the road test area one glossy June morning. As she was from the other side of the river, the Hosta Lady refused to get out of the car in Lansingburgh during the test. Inspector Featherdyke said this was against regulations but, charmed by the Hosta Lady's good manners and her $90, made an exception. The Hosta Lady sat in the back of the car and chewed on her hostas. I was nervous as the car was a right-side driver with mechanical spark advance on the column. Also I dislike it when people eat in the car. I took a right and then a left and then another left, but this one too early and we went puttering down an alley. Panicked, I took a quick right and we ended up in 1944. Featherdyke failed me of course ("Failure to maintain correct decade"), but there were no hard feelings and he bought us all a couple of rounds of cold Schlitz at a bar called Shep's Trough on 126th which was popular with the grave diggers from St. John's Cemetery. One of them went up and grabbed a whole bushel of hostas off some grave and gave it to the Hosta Lady. She was beside herself. "I'm staying," she said. "Me too," said Featherdyke. I, sadly, had jury duty the next day. Gooch Weintraub's cousin, Wilma, helped me find my way out. She was a beautiful bulging woman with a round mouth perpetually open and a body held together with straps of iron. The last of the apple blossoms falling from the trees kept blowing into that lovely red mouth and I pictured her as some smokey whale sucking up sea critters. I was so in love. "Come with me," I said. She wept. "I can't." "Is it because I'm not Jewish?" I asked. "No," she said, "I have jury duty tomorrow."

It's so hard to choose. The reason why I made the move full time to Albany was the liveliness and sense of community in center square, but i just bought my first home in the DelSo neighborhood, and I love my neighbors and all the things that Delaware has to offer. And if we get that casino...

I love so many things about the neighborhood on Delaware Avenue--the Spectrum, NWB, Andy's, etc. But I still think I love Pine Hills more--Ridgefield Park and the community garden, the newly-renovated Madison theater, the Madison Cafe. And lots of variety.

Another vote for the DelSo! It's great to live in a place where everybody really does know your name.

Delaware South because that's where I live now. It's close to everything: great restaurants, unique shopping, great movie theater, and even the highway for a quick commute to work.

center square. I love the tree lined streets and the rowhouses and brownstones.

Helderberg! Great neighbors, super walkable, stewarts for ice cream, fountain for pizza, most amazing and quirky wine shop and I love me some burger nights at the Gastropub!

My Neighborhood of course ... DelSo. I've been watching it, over the course of 12 years, grow and become more trendy. I'm glad to be a part of it! and Thank God The Spectrum never gave up on this neighborhood. They've been here since .. forever!

My favorite is downtown. I love working downtown with a variety of great places to go out for lunch, spots for a beer after work, opportunities for concerts or shows in the evening and access to the bike path by the river for great runs.

While I do go to DelSo for New World Bistro, the Spectrum and ice cream at Emack & Bolio's (frequently!), I have to say my favorite neighborhood is Downtown Troy. It has reinvented itself and just keeps getting better with more and more things to do within walking distance.

Downtown Cohoes! It totally flies under the radar but it's got so much going for it. The Foundry for Art Design + Culture, Cohoes Music Hall, Smiths Tavern (with a 50 foot bar that once belonged to Tammany Hall in NYC), Sticky Fingers Gourmet Apples, a beautiful library in an old church with a crazy mastodon replica on display and talk of a new wine and tapas bar...just to name a few things...

Downtown Troy! Some great new bars and restaurants, plus some old staples, as well as the Farmers Market and street fairs make it an awesome neighborhood.

Pine Hills-- I love the neighborhood feel and the easy access to anywhere in the Capital Region.

I like buckingham lake area because it is relaxing and pretty.

My favorite neighborhood is DelSo because there are so many options of places to grab a bite to eat!

Love and live in delso. Perfect combo of suburban enough for a garage and garden, but loads of places to walk to. And great neighbors!

Love and live in delso. Perfect combo of suburban enough for a garage and garden, but loads of places to walk to. And great neighbors!

Center Square; you can walk everywhere!

Saratoga Springs. Can't beat a baguette from Mrs. London's with cheese and salumi from Putnam Market, enjoyed slowly in the beauty of Congress Park.

Manning, Main & Central.. Born and raised...good people, close to everything...good bus service

I love the Lark St/ Del So area because there are so many options to choose from restaurant, cafe, bakery wise. I wish we had more culturally diverse areas just like that.

Although I've only lived in the Albany area for less than a year, my favorite neighborhood is the Pine Hill area. I live right down the block from Washington Park and love running around there through the changing seasons. The fact that there are some great restaurants and a new bakery makes me fall in love with the place even more. Definitely a smalltown feel in the midst of the capital region.

we live in the Woodlawn/Heldeberg area, off of New Scotland between the hospitals, and it's the best! you can walk to most everything - downtown, New Scotland and Madison restaurants, Washington Park, Buckingham Pond, and several playgrounds. it is a nice area to raise a family.

Over by Buckingham Pond. Fond memories from when I lived there and had 2 small kids. Great area for walking and going the park to feed the ducks!

Downtown Troy is awesome lately! Especially on Saturdays with the farmers market.

I love the four corners neighborhood in Delmar. Love the tree lined neighborhoods surrounding it and and walk-ability to the shops and restaurants.

Center Square - brownstones, good restaurants and Washington Park

My favorite neighborhood is the neighborhood that I have lived in for the past 4 years, and started my "adult life". I love the Washington Park neighborhood. Everything you need is within walking distance - groceries, fine dining, a good drink, quaint breakfast spots, quick takeout, a park to relax, enjoy nature, a musical show and live music, and lastly, my favorite, many different running paths that allow you to take in the beautiful architecture in Albany. I love Albany, and the neighborhood that I call my own!

There are a lot of great neighborhoods but I enjoy Upper Washington Avenue where I live!

I loved every neighborhood I have lived in when I was still living in the city limits, but I really enjoyed living across from Washington Park. It was awesome sitting on the stoop on July 4th watching the fireworks and being able to walk to some really great restaurants and bars. It was also an awesome mix of students, families and transplants. I really miss the fact that every neighborhood was easily accessible. I kind of wish they could move my quiet country rental next to the fountains.

I love my Pine Hills neighborhood. We can walk to the Madison Café, Tierra Coffee Roasters, the new Madison theater, Price Chopper, the library, etc...The old houses are fun to look at, and the tree lined streets are friendly and pretty.

Downtown Troy ftw! It's got everything you need. Good beer, good food, and good people.

The stretch by Madison Theater, specifically Juniors and the now RIP Mahars. My best friend and I used to go there and I met my fiance there. Despite its renovation, Juniors will always be our place.

I like DelSo for the reasons you mentioned.

The Little Bohemian district in Schenectady.

I love the new Scotland neighborhood. We live within walking distance to all the restaurants fountain, tap & tea room, etc. I do also like the Delaware neighborhood as I have been a frequent visitor of Andy 's, prinzo's cardonas etc & the. Spring/Summer/fall farmers market! All the restaurants on Delaware ave are great. Love the cheese traveler, the bake shop, mingle everything!

Center Square, close to Washington Park, can walk to many places-stores, restaurants, etc.

I have to say downtown Troy, it has a lot of character and they're making it so much nicer with opening up the park area by Dinosaur. Hope to see the waterfront revitalized more as well.

Troy, the area around Brown's and Dinosaur BBQ!

Helderberg!

Pine Hills! Love running around the Pond. Great bars and restaurants.

I have always loved the Mansion District...the mansion itself, the great surrounding architecture, the cathedral, great restaurants, the NYS Museum, the much-maligned Plaza and Egg (but I love them). Every time I walk it with my sons, I see something new.

The DelSo moniker is new to me but this is the neighborhood I love and where I live. Great neighbors, fab food, wonderful walks, and the library--we've got everything!

Rapp road has such a compelling history, it has to be up there with the best of neighborhoods.

DelSo all the way! With Spectrum and the most interesting eateries in town, it is the biggest draw for me.

In my heart I like to think of Lark St., DelSo and the Washington Park area as one big happy eclectic neighborhood ~ I love it all! I no longer live in Albany (I lived in the Mansion area, which is great too), but very much enjoy visiting on a regular basis to taste all of the flavors!

DelSo, because it has New World Bistro!

Favorite - Helderberg neighborhood. Great residential neighborhood, walking distance to great restaurants. And DelSo just around the corner!

Just moved into the area so I haven't found my favorite neighborhood yet. But I have to say, they all have a very unique flavor and tight knit communities.

I love Center Square!

I loved living in the DelSo before it was the DelSo (does that make me a hipster?). I loved cutting behind the woods to get to my apt to the Spectrum. It was awesome. Walking to Lark was less than a mile away. I still have such love for the DelSo.

I've also got some love for my new hamlet of Latham. Not as walkable as Albany City proper, but bikeable and fairly quiet. It gets dark at night, I'm close to my favorite restaurant, and grocery stores galore.

Pine Hills. It's really like several neighborhoods in one.

Downtown Troy is awesome! It's such a good time, and quite cute.

Center Square / Washington Park! I love having the park as my front yard and being able to walk to happy hour.

Buckingham Pond, a pleasant little oasis...

Downtown Albany! Yea, it could use a grocery store and a few other outside of work amenities but I think there are a few people who are starting to realize that there is a missed opportunity down here. And little crocus signs are starting to pop up through the snow, like building rehabilitation work and new stores.

I love downtown Troy, lots of restaurant, local businesses and the Saturday farmers market.

When I first moved to Albany, I knew I wanted to live right in the heart of Center Square. Great people, walking distance to so many great Lark Street locations, and accessible by bus from anywhere.

I'm really starting to love downtown Troy more and more. Brown's, Bombers, Dino, and that new confectionary/wine bar is just stupidly amazing.

Lark Street. Especially if work is is walking distance.

I truly LOVE New World Bistro, but nothing reminds me of my childhood and Sunday dinners with my family like Cardona's Market.

I really love downtown Saratoga. I've been there in good and bad weather, and there's still so much life and excitement in all the shops and restaurants. I love that you can find antique books just a few blocks from upscale clothing stores, and then circle back around to get unique food (crepes, cupcakes, thai food all on the same block? delicious) or go see a movie. It feels very friendly.

The Helderberg Neighborhood is my favorite because it's mine! Not only do I live there, but there are beautiful streets and green space for walking, great restaurants (Fountain, Gastropub) to name a few, and colleges and universities to take in just around the corner! It's ideal!

I like the St. Peters neighborhood - quiet and bikeable

Downtown Albany in the Spring/Summer. Always something to do, see, listen to, visit, and restaurants to eat at.

I am a bit biased here but I love my Center Square (Lark St) neighborhood. Arts and entertainment right at my doorstep. Can't beat it!

Little Italy area of Schenectady, lots of delicious eateries nearby and a farmers market right down the street

Mansion District. Close to downtown, Central Square and Delso. Also has Lincoln Park - a park less about looking and lounging and more about doing.

Mansion district. Close to downtown, the Plaza, Center Square, Delso. Also Lincoln Park.

I think uppper madison ave is great if you want to get a decent meal or a nightcap!

Downtown Saratoga can't be beat-- even during August.

Pine Hills - the library, the bars, the houses - although so many parts of the region have great neighborhoods!

Downtown I like all the places to eat

DelSo or any of the Washington park neighborhoods.

The Heldeberg Neighborhood. We bought our first house, had our two sons and can send them to a good school while still being able get Sushi, a trendy meal, a beer, the best pizza, good subs/sandwiches, and now frozen yogurt within a 5 min walk. ! Love it.

Eagle Hill - because in over 250 comments no one has mentioned it. It's mine. All mine!!!

We may only have Fiorello's and Uncommon Grounds for excellent eating, but we do have foot access to the Harriman Campus and SUNYA which feel like private playgrounds in the summer or when school is on break. It's lovely and, with a few exceptions, a solid middle class group of folks who are generally nice (except that one neighbor). ;-)

I live and love Melrose. We have a nice quiet street witha small yard and garage, yet are a only a few minutes walk from Pine Hills, the restaurants, bars, grocery store and library. The perfect balance! :)

I've always had a soft spot for the area around the Four Corners in Delmar.

Downtown Troy, hands down. Everything is within walking distance, and there always seems to be at least one great watering hole that's not overcrowded on any given night.

Washington Park - walkable area, places to live, restaurants, but you can still feel like you've got a little piece of quiet. I saw a hawk eat a squirrel on a hill in the park after a snowstorm this winter. Where else do you get that in the middle of a city??

Although it tends to get a rough rap, Pine Hills provides free entertainment (who doesn't love to people watch on their porches - the "college ghetto" provides tons of that!), great and affordable places to live and plenty of bars, restaurants, theaters, etc.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
