New York recently became the 10th state to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an effort to circumvent the electoral college for presidential elections. Even if this did pass in enough States. Just watch how fast it would unravel in the event of another Bush vs. Gore. States would be voting to change their electors all over the place.
