Heat

One of the things we've noticed skimming through Capital Region news websites every day: The Daily Gazette's Peter Barber takes remarkable photos of fires -- there's something about the way he frames the shots and uses the orange light to capture the heat and scale and destruction of the situations (links to examples after the jump). He recently won an AP award for his work. From a Gazette article today about Barber, who's a former firefighter: "Barber can hear calls on scanners he has in his car (two), his bedroom, his office, his living room and, yes, his bathroom. He also has a Schenectady Fire Department pager on him at all times."

These are just a few examples we pulled from a Google image search. (They don't appear to be paywalled.)

You're right... thanks for bringing this to our attention! Peter Barber finds the horror in fire and its danger and destruction, but also the strange attraction of the fire itself. I'm now a fan.

I've noticed that The Gazette has outstanding photography; it's often noticeably better than what I see in other local dailies.
