The Victoria Pool opens this weekend. Summer must really be here.

If we were special ordering a weekend, it would probably look a lot like the one we have ahead of us. Don't waste it, get out and do something.

1st Friday
The weekend kicks off with 1st Friday in Albany. Shops and galleries are open late with art, music, dancing and other surprises. A few things you might want to check out:
+ Upstate Artists Guild has a People's Choice Show and collaborative performance by author Daniel Nester, jazz guitarist Charlie Rauh, and poet Jasmine Dreame Wagner.
+ The University Club is reviving Pinksterfest, a celebration banned by the Albany Common Council in 1811 and reinstated 200 years later. The celebration includes a talk by journalist and author Paul Grondahl and an after party with music from 8-10 pm.
+The Albany Barn has a "Street Signs - Urban Art" exhibit at Stage One Gallery, showcasing street art, cityscapes, urban themed art, graffiti, etc. They'll also have live sidewalk chalk and spray paint installations. Reception 5-9 pm.
+ Grand Street Community Arts presents a site specific installation for the doorway of historic St. Anthony's Church. Artist reception 5p-8pm.

Art on Lark
Saturday: The Art on Lark festival returns. Lark Street will be closed between Madison and Washington for displays from local artists and sets by local musicians. Saturday 10 am-6 pm - free admission

PolishFest
Friday-Sunday: The largest Polish Festival in the Capital Region is this weekend at Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Church (250 Old Maxwell Road in Latham). A celebration of Polish food, culture, music and history. Friday 4pm to 9pm / Saturday noon to 9pm / Sunday 11:30am to 6pm - admission $3 (or $2 with Price Chopper Advantedge Card).

Armenian Festival
Saturday-Sunday: St Peter's Armenian Church in Watervliet is hosting an Armenian Festival this weekend with traditional foods, music, and culture. Saturday noon to 8pm / Sunday noon to 4pm

Cars, trucks and motorcycles

Americade
Americade, America's largest motorcycle touring rally returns to Lake George this weekend. If motorcycles are your thing there will be plenty of them to gawk at this weekend. Saturday 9 am to 5pm

Saratoga Nationals
The Saratoga Auto Museum's annual Saratoga Nationals show returns to Spa State Park with classic cars, trucks and bikes, plus food and music. Saturday from 10 am-4 pm - $10

Victoria Pool
Saturday: The lovely Victoria Pool at Spa State Park opens for the season. It will be open weekends 10 am to 6 pm until June 28 when it opens seven days a week for the rest of the summer. $8 adults / $4 kids and seniors / kids under 5 free

Beaches
The beaches at Moreau Lake State Park, Thompson's Lake at Thacher State Park, and Grafton Lakes State Park are open for the season.

Theater

Phantom of the Opera
Friday-Sunday: A new touring version of a re-imagined production of The Phantom of the Opera finishes its run at Proctors. (Here's an interview with the producer about ways the production has evolved). It closes Sunday. various times - $25 and up

Bent
Confetti Stage opens Martin Sherman's play Bent, a historical drama about being gay in Nazi Germany. Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2pm - $15 general admission

Roscoe
Opera Saratoga presents a workshop performance of Evan Mack's new opera, Roscoe, based on William Kennedy's novel, at Skidmore's Zankel Music Center. Sunday 2 pm - $25

The Grapes of Wrath
The Ghent Playhouse presents The Grapes of Wrath, the play based on the Steinbeck novel. Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm - $10-$18

Henry IV, Part I
Sunday: The Spectrum is screening the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Henry IV Part I. Sunday at noon

Comedy

Alf Pacino
Friday: This longform comedy improv group -- part of The Mop & Bucket Company -- is playing a set tonight as part of MopCo's weekly improv show at Proctors. It's like good improvised jazz -- creating scene after scene of variations on a theme provided by the audience. And it's pretty funny stuff. Friday at 8pm - $14, $6 students

Comedy for a Cause: Hellions of Troy Roller Derby Fundraiser
Friday: Local stand-up show at The Comedy Works in Albany to raise money for the Hellions of Troy. Snacks, prizes, and a silent auction. Friday 7:30pm - $20 in advance / $25 at the door

Burlesque
Red Square hosts the Bing Bamboo Room's Carney Circus Experience -- a mix of burlesque,carnival midway and circus sideshow. Saturday 9pm

Film

Festival Cinema Invisible
Friday-Sunday: Proctors will be hosting Festival Cinema Invisible, a slate of Iranian films that have been deprived of public screening -- specifically films by, on, or about Iranian women. Short and full-length narratives, animations, experimental and and other mediums including painting and photo exhibits, live performance and music. various times - each film $6.50 / day pass $20 / festival pass $50

Frozen in the park
Friday: There's a free screening of Frozen on the wall at Ballston Spa's Wiswall Park following 1st Friday in the village. Friday 8:30 pm

Rebecca
The Bow Tie Cinema in Saratoga Springs is screening the Alfred Hitchcock classic Rebecca on Saturday and Sunday at 11 am.

Spaceballs
On Friday and Saturday night the Insomnia Theater film at the Saratoga Spring Bow Tie is the Mel Brooks sci-fi parody Spaceballs.

Mountain Jam
Friday-Sunday: The Mountain Jam festival returns to Hunter Mountain. Headliners this year include: Allman Brothers Band, Bob Weir & Ratdog, Gov't Mule, Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Damian Marley, and Jeff Tweedy. Saturday-Sunday: The Mabee Farm Historic Site is hosting a Revolutionary War Living History Weekend with re-enactors, encampments, living history educators, and demonstrations of hearth cooking, beer brewing, blacksmithing and more. Saturday 9 am-5 pm / Sunday 9 am-4 pm - $5 / $3 for children

Downtown Troy History Walk
This weekend's Rensselaer County Historical Society history walk is focused on architecture in Troy. "Explore the streets of downtown Troy with this guided tour showcasing the architectural gems of 19th and 20th century Troy." The walk departs from the Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market information table. Saturday 10:30 am - $5

Museums

Mummies
This is the last week for the Mystery of the Albany Mummies exhibit at the Albany Institute. The exhibit is based on a new research into the backgrounds of the two Egyptian mummies in the museum's collection. It closes on Sunday.

Things that are gross
miSci's Grossology exhibit continues this weekend. Digestion, organs, and stinky gunk to play with, including interactive games and larger-than-life exhibits about the science of the human body. Saturday 9 am-5 pm and Sunday noon-5 pm

Farmers' Markets
Outdoor farmers' markets are open for the season:
+ The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market will be on River Street in downtown Troy on Saturday.
+ The Saratoga Farmers' Market is at the High Rock Park pavilions on Saturday.
+ The Delmar Farmers Market is at Bethlehem Central Middle School on Saturday.
+ The Schenectady Greenmarket is around Schenectady City on Sunday.
+ The Spa City Farmers' Market will be on the front lawn of the Lincoln Baths Sunday.

This Sunday afternoon (June 8) at Camp Little Notch in Fort Ann, NY, we will not only host our weekly free Summer Camp Open House, but also a Silent Auction in our Dining Hall! The Auction closes at 3:30 pm, so if you arrive at 2pm, there will be plenty of time to bid on the amazing collection of donated items - and also hike to the Furnace! The sun will be shining! The birds will be singing! And you can hit the Exit 20 outlet stores on the way home!
