What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: trails, an island in the lake, Tough Mudder, side trip poutine, Four Fat Fowl, a cooking class, City Beer Hall, ample chicken parm, dodging the news, silver status, and why.

Jona volunteered in Northville for National Trails Day.

Wayfarer Christine had Windham High Peak to herself.

Jackie took a midweek holiday to Westport, New York -- and visited an island in Lake Champlain.

Katelyn shared some photos from the Tough Mudder.

While in Plattsburgh the Chopsticks Optional crew took a side trip to Canada for poutine.

Kimberly enjoyed the cheese at the Four Fat Fowl launch party. (Some backstory from Steve.)

Jon and Otis checked out a class at the new Price Chopper Market Bistro.

The Fuj recapped a Founders wild game beer dinner at City Beer Hall. And Jerry tried the short rib melt at CBH.

Zena was served an ample portion of chicken parm at Canali's in Rotterdam.

Albany Jane on the sushi at Sake in Latham.

Ashley tried two crepes at Ravenous.

Rob dodged the newspaper delivery.

One of Chuck's Albany Twilight League photos won an award in a San Francisco photo competition.

And Amy wondered why.

Washington Avenue definitely needs more than one lane in each direction, but that doesn't mean it can't be redesigned. They can reduce the size of the lanes, add a median, and add a protected bike lane where the shoulder of the road now lies. I agree, however, that the entire Harriman loop would have to be redesigned and that includes those over-passes, so this would be an extremely expensive undertaking if they want to do it right. But there could be significant development on the land that is now wasted by asphalt that could offset that cost and bulk up the tax base for the city.
