I see you included membership pools---the JCC in Albany also has a large pool with lap lanes and a small kiddie pool.

It is interesting to see which municipalities only allow residents. As usual amenities in Albany are open to all and free for all.

Does anyone know if any of these pools are ever setup for 50 meter lap-swimming?

@Sean: the Peerless Pool in Saratoga, which is by far my favorite, is technically a 50 meters pool but is set up with lanes spanning its width, not length. One end has a zero-depth entrance, so it wouldn't quite work anyway. Not that it's helping you here, but just in case you were wondering based on the photos :) It's still a beautiful pool, with a lot more space, grass, and parking than its sibling in the same park, the Victoria Pool (don't bother trying to swim there). If you don't mind swimming in lakes, there are plenty around; I had a good swim at Lake Myosotis last week.

I agree with lucy on both points.

The JCC offers a 4 month membership that is reasonable and offers the oudoor pools, indoor pool, and access to their fitness center and gym.

And if you don't want to pay anything, Albany rocks! Equally for residents and non-residnets.

Does anyone know if any of these within 15 min or so of Albany that offers outdoor lap swim without a membership? I don't mind spending a couple dollars each time, but don't want to pay for a membership somewhere. I'd love to check out Saratoga but it would be a little far to drive on a regular basis. Thanks!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
