I'm tired of unleashed dogs running around the parks in Albany. I've heard several accounts of people being bitten and accosted by unleashed dogs. It's out of control.

As a dog owner, I find Albany's public parks to be a great asset and outlet for my dogs. While I'm a little hesitant on modifying leash laws, I would support investment in dog parks in all of the parks (only a few have them), specifically Washington Park, which would allow dogs to play off leash in a fenced area, allowing others to enjoy the rest of the park at ease.
At the end of the day, whether on leash or off, dog attacks will happen (just like humans will throw fist at eachother), so no matter what it can't be avoided. My dog has been midly attacked on leashed walks and within dog parks, but usually the dogs resolve the situation themselves within seconds. Its a scary situation, but its a reality of dog ownership.
I do support the proposed law, but it isn't going to be an effective tool in knowing whether your dog (or kids) is around other known "vicious" dogs in a dog park or a park in general, since the information will be tied to a block address. I often walk my dog up to two miles away from my home, so hypothetically, if my dog were tagged "vicious" it would do no good to the general public knowing the block my dog resides, when I'm often far and away from it.

My pit bull (leashed) was attacked by another pit bull (unleashed) in Washington Park. Scariest thing I've ever seen. If owners are already dumb enough to bring dangerous dogs out in public and unleashed, will a new registry/notification system to anything to prevent these situations? It still leaves it up to responsible owners to avoid blocks with bad dogs.
