The week ahead

yo-yo ma 2014

It's a Yo-Yo Ma kind of week. The guy's everywhere.

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look forward to, or keep busy with this week, from the weather (keep it up), to real talk about summer, the orchestra, to The Track, to raiding, to all sorts of music...

Weather

Here's the paraphrased forecast for this week:
Monday: Sunny and 82. Maybe a thunderstorm.
Tuesday: Repeat.
Wednesday: Again, but cooler.
Thursday: Sunny and mid-70s.
Friday: Sunny and close to 80.
Weekend: Sunny, low 80s.

Keep it up, August.

Let's talk about summer

It's now August. Summer is rushing by. All those summer things you keep saying you want to do, but haven't? IT'S NOW THE TIME TO DO THEM.

The Track

It's the third full week of the season at the Saratoga Race Course. This coming Sunday is a gate giveaway day -- a Saratoga tote bag. (And, of course, there is no racing on Tuesday.)

Philadelphia Orchestra

Wednesday: The Philadelphia Orchestra opens its annual run at SPAC with a performance of works by Gershwin, Bernstein, and Copland. Thursday's performance will include pianist -- and MacArthur grant winner -- Jeremy Denk. Friday is Yo-Yo Ma night. And Saturday is Cirque de la Symphonie.

Theater

Park Playhouse
The Park Playhouse in Albany's Washington Park continues its August production, which is Oliver this year. (It runs through August 16.)

Cap Rep
This is the last week for Cap Rep's production of Smokey Joe's Cafe.

WTF
The production The Visit, starring Chita Rivera, continues. And The Old Man and the Moon opens Wednesday.

Urban Raid

Looking ahead to Saturday: The Urban Raid race returns to downtown Albany. The race/obstacle course will run through a loop around the area near the ESP. Registration is still open -- it starts at $60.

Hudson Music Fest
