Teachout survives residency challenge, Troy citizens rally against crime,Port of Albany oil spill quickly contained

A state appeals court upheld a ruling on Tuesday allowing Zephyr Teachout to remain on the Democratic primary ballot. Cuomo backers went to court in an effort to halt Teachout's bid for governor by claiming she was in violation of required residency rules. [TU]

A level three sex offender was arraigned on Wednesday in connection with a stabbing attack on a 43 woman who was dragged into the woods on Watervliet Shaker Road last week.James Sayers pleaded not guilty to felony attempted murder and assault charges in the case.Police say video from a CDTA surveillance camera helped lead them to the suspect. Colonie Police Chief Steven Heider calls the random stalking and attempted murder case, "one of the creepiest cases I've ever worked."

A former Saratoga County sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty to cocain trafficking on Wednesday in U.S. District Court and could be facing up to 40 years in prison for transporting a person and what he thought was cocaine in exchange for $5,000. [TU][WNYT]
