Summer, goodbye

This is the last week of August. Do all the summer things. Repeat, do all the summer things. And because next Monday is Labor Day, you might even have a three-day weekend in which to do all the summer things.

The Track

It's the last week of the season at the Saratoga Race Course. Saturday and Sunday is the Final Stretch Festival. Saturday is the Woodward Stakes, a Grade 1 stakes race. And Monday is the last day of the season.

County fairs

County fair season wraps up around the Capital Region this week with three fairs:
+ August 26-September 1: The Fonda Fair at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds
+ August 27-September 1: The Columbia County Fair at the fairgrounds in Chatham
+ August 27-September 1: The Schaghticoke Fair at the fairgrounds in (surprise) Schaghticoke.

Baseball

The last home stand of the ValleyCats season is this week -- Monday-Saturday at The Joe.

Wait, Wait...

Thursday: NPR news/comedy quiz show Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me will be at Tanglewood to record this week's episode. Thursday 8 pm - $24 and up

PechaKucha

Thursday: Tuesday: The next local PechaKucha event is at the Tech Valley Center of Gravity in Troy. The series is returning the to "Tao of Tech" theme with presentations about: intuition, mad scientists, paper boats, robots, pulling people from the marings, transforming discard wood, and sand. (PechaKucha? It's a series of short presentations delivered very quickly.) Thursday 7 pm - free

Looking ahead to the weekend...

Saturday-Sunday: The Capital District Scottish Games return to the Altamont Fairgrounds. You know, in case you want to see some lads toss some cabers. Also: demonstrations, dancers, and music (including pipe bands). Saturday $18 ($22 at the gate), Sunday $10 ($12 at the gate)
