Drawing's closed!

Wolff's annual Oktoberfest block party is this Saturday on Broadway in Albany's warehouse district. We have five pairs of VIP tickets -- and we're giving them away.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

If you could create any sort of (something)fest in the Capital Region, what would it be?

This could be anything. Mini Hot Dogfest. Corning Towerfest. Capital Region Festfest (a festival of festivals!). Whatever. Non-redeemable bonus points for fun answers. We'll draw five winners at random.

The Oktoberfest block party is Saturday, September 27 from 11 am to 7 pm. And as in years past, it will include beer, food, Dachshund "wiener dog" races, and other competitions. Tickets are currently available online -- they're $10 and include a free commemorative stein and quick entry into the festival. (Day-of tickets are also $10, but don't include the stein.)

There are also $25 VIP tickets (which are being given away in this drawing). They include the free commemorative stein, quick entry to the fest, access to the VIP tent, table service in the VIP tent, and private bathrooms.

Important: All comments must be submitted by 5 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by 10 pm on Tuesday and must respond by noon on Wednesday, September 24.

Celebrate love living in Albany fest.

A Hudson River Fest

Romantic Fest
Serenades, Best Proposals, Impromptu marriages (City Clerk can have extended hours- generating revenue for our cash strapped city) Albany Symphony, Shakespeare Love Scenes, Speed Dating Contests, Tinder Area, Love Potions, Celebrate Oldest Couple, Chocolate...

Pizzafest could be fun.

Cinco de Mayo

Cheeseburgerfest. No lie, this would be my dream.

Local Historyfest!

State Park fest!

Capital Region Whine Fest. Maybe if we make a big deal out of it once a year, people will stop doing it every minute of every day.

Snowman Festival on Washington Park, in mid winter.

New York State Wine Festival. We have tons of awesome craft beer things, hard cider things, etc. going on around here, but New York wineries have been around a long time as well! In fact, maybe we should have an all-things-local alcohol fest...

All Over Albany fest!!

pet festival

Festfest, in which we celebrate that we are celebrating

Some sort of Autumn/Harvest Fest, as its my favorite time of year.

State Worker-Fest. It would happen every day of the year, where everyone just hangs out casually and complains about having to work and then at the end of the day everyone gets a huge pension. Contract employees hired at state agencies after the "Hiring Freeze" would serve as glorified slaves. Popular games include platitude tossing ("Put in your dues and you'll get ahead!"), collective bargaining, and double dipping (nothing like retiring from a non-fillable item to come back and take up a contract position after you've got that sweet pension!).

slackline Fest!

EGGfest - all day music festival at the Egg!

Buried History Fest. Can you dig it?

Cider Donuts Fest...because somebody was going to say this so it might as well be me

FREEDOM fest!! 😎

Dutchfest. Dutch food, Dutch beer, wooden shoes, Vincent van Gogh lookalike contest. Everybody pays their own way (goes Dutch) and arrives by bicycle...

PumpkinFest!!!

chicken wing fest

Moonshine Fest!

Coffeefest: to highlight and bring focus to the capital region coffee scene. There would be demonstrates of how to cold brew coffee, make cappuccino art and espresso concoctions. Food would be served to coffee in the recipe- like dry bbq rubs where ground coffee bitterness balances the flavor of the meat!

Ice Cream Fest. Because ice cream!

Hudson River Festival - something similar to the Clearwater Hudson River Revival in Croton-on-Hudson. Please can come to the festival and ride on the Clearwater, Half Moon or Onrust replica boats. They can try out kayaks or canoes on the Hudson, and learn about fish and wildlife that live in the River near us. Of course there would be music and great food!

Poser Fest, er, I mean Lark Fest.

Dumpling festival - celebrating all different kinds of dumplings from around the world.

PicnicPalooza - everyone brings food to a park. Chat with your fellow picnicers, and share if you want to!

Pumpkin/Autumn fest!!

something like Carnevale or Mardi Gras.
An ice and snow fest- snowman and ice sculpture contests; luges, etc.

Giggle Fest - a combination of fun things that make people laugh and smile all day, lol

Dogfest!

Dog Fest! All dogs can go with owners to restaurant of choice.

Dumpling Fest

Bike lanes everywhere, totally connected, with proper signage.

Comedy fest

An Alt/indie rock fest, with craft beers. Definitely base it in Troy as well.

I'm diggin' the Albany Fest Fest suggestion - Celebrating all things Albany It'd be a city-wide festival! Music, food and fun all over the city all on one day!

Troy has it, why not an Albany chowderfest?

Farmer's Market Fest... For a month or two during the summer, have all local farmer's markets get customers to pick their favorite 5-10 vendors from each market in various categories, then invite all the winners to the festival, to be held in the plaza or Jennings Landing.

A craft beer fest, like the one that use to be at the armory.

Harvest Fest

New Netherlands Fest showcasing Upper Hudson's traditions

Glow in the Dark Fest!

Fall Apple Festival: apples, apple cidar, spiked apple cidar, apple cidar donuts, apple pie cooking contests, apple pie eating contests, candy apples, Washington apple shots, bobbing for apples, apple crisp, restaurants making meals that highlight the beautiful tastes of APPLES....also lots of cheese and beer bc it goes great with apples.

University Fest - events & competitions that pit the multitude of local colleges against each other.

DessertFest

Halloween Fest! A big block party with local food, brew and music. Obviously best costume awards would be given.

Human Rights Fest!

Fall Comfort Food & Drink Fest

Waffle Fest!

a triple a ballpark on the river near downtown

all the festivals ever! But I guess if I had to pick, Apple Cider Donut Festival!!!!!! I live for fall.

Tech fest. Media fest. Whatever you would call a scaled down version of Austin's SXSW.

A big pumpkin fest with all the good stuff....pumpkin and apple flavored everything, music, games, carvings, etc.

Apple Cider Fest

If I could create any kind of "fest" in the Capital Region, it would be the RiverFest. Jennings Landing would be transformed into a carnival/fair. There would be paddle boats and kyacks to rent along the waterfront, recognizable live bands, and plenty of food and libations from local restaurants and breweries -- with contests to vote on the best offerings! And, of course, to truly honor the Hudson River, there would be a river jump to raise money for Albany charities (and to test the immune systems of the jumpers).

Pickle Palooza!

Bring back First Night! Except, ya know, make it better.

Many of these suggested fests already exist in the area, but are obviously not well promoted or attended...

Pie Fest! pie eating contest and different type of pie stands.

World Culture Fest; Celebrating Albany's ethnic diversity. Different foods, music, and art showcasing the many cultures of the people residing here in the Capital Region.

Ice Cream - fest!

Celebrate Life Festival! Nothing depressing.....just lots of things to do and try and rule that everyone there must be happy and respectful of others.
Drinks, music, games, baloons, boats, bikes. yadda yadda yadda

Streetfest. Major streets throughout the city are closed to vehicular traffic for a pedestrian free for all.

strawberry fest

Id love to see a candle light tour of the historical homes of albany

I would create a festival that would be for the youth ages 13-17 so they would have something positive to attend and stay off of the streets. This may include inflatable events such as relay races, field games, food. Their also would be tables to address issues that may be effecting them in their lives. It also would be nice if their parents would attend the event to promote stronger family connections and ties to their Albany community.

Apple Fest. All things apples.

Masquerade fest.

Wine fest! (No whining.....)

Harry Potter Fest! Turn lark into diagon alley!

Should have a food festival like brooklyn smorgasburg. Food is kind of limited around town. Would love to see small street vendors flourish during the summer.

Burrito Fest!!

How about a ObeyTrafficLawandNoLittering-FestaPalooza - Tons of Fun for all!

CHEESE FEST!!!!!!

Any festival that does not involve a massive display of public drunkenness.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
