Suspect arrested in Vanessa Milligan's death, tentative agreement to save Ladder No. 1, Malta businessman honored by White House

Police arrested the former boyfriend of 19-year-old Vanessa Milligan in connection with the death of Milligan and her unborn daughter in Lansingburgh. Gabriel Vega is expected to be arraigned this morning in Rensselaer County Court.[Record][WNYT][News 10]

Albany mayor Kathy Sheehan and the Albany firefighters union have struck a tentative deal that would keep Ladder No. 1 open in exchange for help cutting $1.2 million from other parts of the fire department. [TU]

The candiates for the NY 19th Congressional District -- incumbent Chris Gibson (R ) and challenger Sean Eldridge (D)-- squared off on food stamp funding, Ebola, and fracking among other issues at a debate on Wednesday. [TWCN]

Police say a student at Albany's Abrooken Career and Technical Center brought a handgun into the school building on Tuesday. Two Albany School District employees were fired for allegedly ignoring the metal detector that went off as the student entered the building. Authorities say they found the gun while arresting the teen on a separate warrant at the school. [WNYT][TWCN][News 10]

UAlbany police are looking into the armed robbery of a student in his room at Alden Hall on the downtown campus on Wednesday. [TU]

A missing Coeymans teen was found safe on Wednesday at a home in Scranton and a 20 year old has been arrested in connection with the case and has been charged with 2nd degree rape.[TWCN][TU]

An Albany man was arrested on drug charges in Plattsburgh for allegedly hiding 200 bags of heroin in his groin. [WNYT]

School officials from the Brunswick-Brittonkill school district say the bus driver involved in an accident that claimed the life of another motorist helped keep the crash from becoming much worse and acted quickly to get medical attention and support the 26 children onboard the bus. [WNYT]

The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority has approved a document that completes the state Environmental Quality Review Act process for the proposed 60-acre Mohawk Harbor casino and resort project.[TU][Gazette]

A construction company working at the GlobalFoundries site in Malta has been fined $7,000 by federal labor officials in connection with the death of a worker who was crushed by an air exchanger unit there last June. [Record]

The family of an 18-year-old student who disappeared from The College of Saint Rose last week has released a video pleading with the young man to come home. [News 10]

A Malta businessman is being honored by The White House as a "champion of change" for advocating for foreign-born workers and hosting a workplace literacy program for English language learners. [Saratogian]
