Monday: The Palace's film series is showing A Clockwork Orange. Monday 7 pm - $5

Man with a Movie Camera
Wednesday: The Albany Public Library's Silent Film Spectacular series is showing the 1929 Russian film Man with a Movie Camera with live score by Yoma. Wednesday 7 pm, main library - free

Halloween double feature
Wednesday: The Palace has a Halloween-themed double feature lined up: the 1931 versions of Dracula (the Bela Lugosi one) and Frankenstein (the Boris Karloff one). Combined, they're about 2.5 hours long. Wednesday 7 pm - $5

Evil Dead: The Musical

Tuesday: A touring production of Evil Dead: The Musical -- a stage musical version of the cult film series The Evil Dead -- will be at Proctors. Noted: "Those seated in the designated "Splatter Zone" seat locations will be splashed by stage "blood" and get increasingly wet over the course of the performance." Tuesday 7:30 pm - $20 and up

Troy Civic: Over the weekend, Troy Civic is also producing this musical at The Troy Atrium.

Arts and sciences

Bill T. Jones
Monday: Choreographer Bill T. Jones will be at The Egg for an on-stage conversation with WAMC's Joe Donahue about his new memoir Story-Time: The Life of an Idea. Blurbage:

[The memoir is] filled with telling vignettes-about his childhood as part of a large, poor, Southern family that migrated to upstate New York; about his struggles to find a place for himself in a white-dominated dance world; and about his encounters with notable artists and musicians and his emergence as one of the icons of the modern dance world.

A Q&A and book signing will follow. Monday 7 pm - free, reservations recommended

"Ghost" buildings
Tuesday: Historian Don Rittner is giving a walking tour of "ghost buildings" on State Street for Historic Albany. "State Street has been the city of Albany's 'main street' for 400 years, and we'll explore some of the vanished landmarks that once stood." Tuesday 5:30 pm - free (reservation required)

Najla Said
Tuesday: Author/actress/playwright Najla Said will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series. She'll be talking about her memoir Looking for Palestine: Growing Up Confused in an Arab-American Family (Vogue interview). Tuesday 8 pm, uptown campus, Performing Arts Center - free

Women and Men in a New Millennium
Wednesday: Sociologist Michael Kimmel will be at Union for a talk titled "Mars and Venus, or Planet Earth: Women and Men in a New Millennium." Wednesday 7 pm, Nott Memorial - free

Privacy in the digital age
Thursday: Loretta A. Preska -- chief judge for U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York -- will be at Saint Rose for talk titled "Personal Privacy, the Fourth Amendment and the Digital Age." A panel discussion will follow with Richard Hartunian, US Attorney for the Northern District of New York, and criminal defense attorney E. Stewart Jones. Thursday 5 pm, Lally School of Education - free (reservation required)

Diversity in the media
Thursday: John Quiñones from ABC News will be at Union for a talk about diversity in the media. His 30-year career has included being ABC's first Latino correspondent. Thursday 5:30 pm, Nott Memorial - free

Albany History in an Alternate Universe
Thursday: Mystery writer -- and UAlbany professor -- Frankie Bailey will be at the Albany Institute to talk about her book Wicked Albany and "how she draws on Albany's vibrant history in crafting her police procedural series set in a near-future version of the city." Thursday 6 pm - free

Chuck Palahniuk
Saturday: Author Chuck Palahniuk will be at Skidmore to talk about his new book Beautiful You, which he's described as "gonzo erotica." Saturday 7 pm, Palamountain Hall - tickets (which include one copy of the book) are $35

Halloween

It's Friday. And Halloween + Friday = a lot crazy.

Many, many places will be Halloween-themed stuff. If you're looking for a big costume party, there is the annual party at the Washington Park Lake House. Tickets are $25 ahead / $40 at the door. And if often sells out.
