Coxsackie. Skaneateles. Canajoharie.
This is total linkbait, but it's funny linkbait: The real estate website Movoto asked Californians how to pronounces the names of places in upstate New York.
Coxsackie. Skaneateles. Canajoharie. And so on. Hijinks ensue.

Some of those people are just idiots. I mean, to mangle them a little, alright, but some of them were just blatantly trying to use vowels that aren't in those words at all, stuff like that. It almost felt like they were mocking us. (What can I say -- I get touchy about people knocking New York.)

I'm an Albany native living in California..... to be fair, you should have heard me butcher the names of numerous places here when I first moved west. It still befuddles me that so many Spanish names are not pronounced the Spanish way.

Fun fact: The Capital Region shares these local names with California cities -- Albany, Saratoga, and Waterford.
