Santa Speedo Sprint 2014 registration open
The Albany Santa Speedo Sprint returns for its ninth (!) dash down Lark Street December 6. So you have some time to gather pledges -- and your courage -- for this year's run for charity.
The sprint is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: people strip down to scanty, holiday-themed attire and then run down Lark Street and back. The event is organized by the Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy and is a fundraiser for the Albany Damien Center and the HIV/AIDS program at the Albany Medical Center. The sprints have raised more than $125,000 over the years.
And it really is one of the happiest events of the year. How often do you see a huge crowd of people where everyone's smiling and laughing and cheering?
It's a $25 donation to participate. The first 175 people to sign get a free t-shirt.
And if you're not for the brisk run, you can still donate at the link above.

It was a great run (my 4th) but this year only about 70 people took part. We used to be a few hundreds. Did the rain make the others wimp out? There also could have been more spectators.
