Sufjan Stevens at The Palace
The Sufjan Stevens is set to play a show at The Palace April 15. Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 30 -- they're $30 and up. (There's also a pre-sale.)
Stevens will be touring to promote a new album, Carrie & Lowell. (Not to be confused with Carey Lowell.) Tour blurbage:
Thematically the 11 songs address life and death, love and loss, and the artist's struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love. The album is named for Stevens' mother and stepfather and is a return to Stevens' folk roots.
A singer-songwriter currently living in Brooklyn, NY, Stevens' preoccupation with epic concepts has motivated two state records (Michigan & Illinois), a collection of sacred and biblical songs (Seven Swans), an electronic album for the animals of the Chinese zodiac (Enjoy Your Rabbit), two Christmas box sets (Songs for Christmas, vol. 1-5 and Silver & Gold, vol. 6-10), and a BAM-commissioned programmatic tone poem for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (The BQE). In 2010 Stevens released an expansive EP (All Delighted People) and the full length The Age of Adz, a collection of songs partly inspired by the outsider artist Royal Robertson.

Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

I have never heard this fella's music but I will check it out now based on the fact that he is wearing a Kowloon Walled City shirt which means he obviously has great taste in music :)

Wow. This is great news. His work is beautiful and complex. Better check this guy out while you can — before he heads back to his native planet.

!!! The people in charge of booking acts at the Palace deserve a raise. Sufjan has put on an amazing show every time I've seen him - don't miss him!
Carrie & Lowell is supposed to be a return to his folky roots - I wonder how large of a band he'll tour with?

The music scene in Albany is getting a lot better. Across multiple venues and genres. Not sure why but it is about damn time.
Check out Stevens' act from his last tour.

That presale this morning was an awful mess. Errors and since when do they not allow you to buy two tickets if there are only three seats left in a row? What kind of policy is that?

Joe - the mess is to be expected when it's Ticketmaster handling things... Still, I got my tickets and am psyched for this show!!
This song is also from the last tour, but totally different than the links above (equally mindblowing)
