Over at PBS Media Shift there's an interesting case study about how a project used municipal data to help people get a better understand of, and organize action around, Detroit's massive blighted properties problem. The web developers involved initially met resistance in getting the data necessary -- but the project ended up being so useful that public officials started coming to them for information. The effort was eventually funneled into the Mapping Motor City interactive site.
