Schenectady in miniature

Over at the Daily Gazette, Patrick Dodson has a photo set of a remarkable model train replica of downtown Schenectady -- the details in the models are really impressive. [Daily Gazette] Earlier: A miniature version of Troy and its past

That is SO freaking impressive. I cannot fathom anyone having the skill and patience...and money...to recreate such a life-like model. I wish it was in my basement. I dread to think of what future modelers will depict when they recreate out towns and cities....gang bangers, drunks and drug addicts, abandoned factories and rusting rail lines not to mention strip malls EVERYWHERE. It is so nice that someone can hang onto and appreciate the fact that at one point our small and midsized cities had a life and vibrancy that is essentially gone and replaced with JUNK. Who knows maybe my child will make a model of Crossgates Mall and a Wall Mart so that she too can recollect the good old days of what life was like in the Capital District in the early 21st century

I was fortunate enough to have some of my photographs of Schenectady used as models for some of the buildings shown (unfortunately, I didn't have full shots of the buildings that were just lost). At the time it was a very quiet project, so I'm glad that the owner has decided to publicize what he has; those models are just terrific.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
