Today's moment of spring
We spotted these little yellow flowers poking out of the dead leaves in the wooded area along Buckingham Pond in Albany. Does anyone know what they're called?
By the way: The fountains are back on the pond. It really is spring.
Also: A moment of silence for the Buckingham Pond whale that didn't make through it through the winter and is now floating, on its side, and stinking at the eastern end of the pond. You were a big fish in a small pond. Rest in peace.

Looks like coltsfoot. Flowers and young leaves are edible. One of the first wildflowers of spring.
"Coltsfoot is a perennial plant that looks similar to a dandelion when it blooms in spring. This wild edible plant is unusual in that the flowers bloom and die before the appearance of any leaves."

It's Coltsfoot, Tussilago farfara. Notice that there are no leaves. The leaves only appear after the flowers wither. So, in spring you have flowers with no leaves; in summer leaves with no flowers.
