Because it's park furniture shaped like a tulip

tulpi seat

So, some Capital Region park or public space might need these: A Dutch company has designed an outdoor seat that looks like a tulip. The Tulpi seat stays folded up like a tulip bloom when not in use, and then folds down to provide a place to sit.

The company that makes the seat says they're durable, ergonomic, and the fold-up design helps keep dirt and rain off the seats. Brochure blurbage:

The Tulpi is a perfect combination of design, ergonomics and sustainability. The tulip shape of the chair immediately creates an atmospheric scenery that will brighten up public spaces. Tulpi's are loved by kids, especially in parks! They love the bright colors and the fact the Tulpi can rotate 360 degrees.

The chair won a recent design award for street furniture.

There's also a tulip-shaped trash can.

Adorable! I'd actually contribute to a fund to install some of these in Washington Park.

Albany must get these immediately!

Me too! Set up the Go Fund Me page. Ha!

I guess it would be pushing it to get these installed by Tulip Fest :)

But for next year...

They are nice and all, but the unfortunate reality is that they will be covered in graffiti and destroyed within a few years. I love the idea, but I think it would be a waste in the end.

I love the idea to plant the Tulpi all over the US. And Rebecca, they are graffiti-proof! I know because I'm the Designer.

@Marco -- you answered a question I was going to ask about finishes that resist spray paint. Congrats on such a whimsical and charming design for public spaces.

Now how much do these tulips chairs cost?

Okay, Albanians, let's get serious about this. How do we get the City interested and maybe line up some private sources for matching grants? This could be another small piece in cultural tourism to play up Albany's Dutch heritage.

Tulip chairs for TulipFEST - what an absolutely clever idea! They are absolutely beautiful and colorful.
