Stage and film

Hamlet
Tuesday-Sunday: Capital Rep's new production of Hamlet continues. The TU calls the production "Vivid, brisk, emotionally resonant and achingly tragic." Tuesday-Sunday various times - $20 and up

Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine
Wednesday: The Spectrum will be screening the documentary Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine, about the young gay man who was tortured and kill in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998. After the screening the film's director, Michele Josue, will be appearing via Skype for a Q&A. Wednesday 6:30 pm - $12

Memphis
Thursday: A touring production of the musical Memphis will be at Proctors. It's set in the early rock and roll scene of 1950s Memphis. The show won the 2010 Tony for best musical. Thursday 8 pm - $20 and up

Arts and sciences

Painting
Thursday: Troy-based artist Jenny Kemp will be at the Opalka Gallery on the Sage Albany campus for a talk about her paintings. Thursday 6:30 pm - free

William Wellman
Friday: The NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series concludes its spring season with William Wellman, Jr. at UAlbany talking about his biography of his father, the film director William A. Wellman. Friday 7:30 pm, UAlbany downtown campus, Page Hall - free

A Taste of Albany

Thursday: The annual Taste of Albany will be back at the State Museum. The event includes a cocktail hour and samples from more than 30 local restaurants. It's a benefit for the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless. Thursday 5 pm (cocktail hour -- tastings start at 6 pm) - $75

Circus

Thursday-Sunday: The Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be at the TU Center for a four-day run. This particular show is "Legends." It looks like it includes the usual sorts of circus acts -- and elephants, a growing point of criticism in recent years. The company recently announced it will be phasing out the use of the animals. Thursday-Sunday various times - $18 and up

Food trucks

Friday: The first Fork in the Road food truck event is lined up for Tricentennial Park in downtown Albany (as mentioned). (We hear the lineup of trucks will be released this week.) The event is set to repeat on the first Friday of each month through October. Friday 4-8 pm
