The New Pornographers at Bearsville

new pornographers band

A bit farther afield, but they never seem to stop here: The New Pornographers are set to play The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock July 9. Tickets go on sale this Friday (May 29) -- they're $35.

The New Pornographers are an indie "supergroup" -- sort of a Canadian indie rock Avengers -- that includes A.C. Newman, John Collins, Blaine Thurier, Dan Bejar, Kathryn Calder, Neko Case, and Todd Fancey. They first assembled in 1999 in Vancouver -- bright, pop-y rock ensued.

Neko Case (who's obviously a superhero) has since become a big indie star in her own right, which has kept her from touring with the group sometimes. We can't figure out if she'll be at the Woodstock show. (Maybe you know.)

Openers for the show are Thao and The Get Down Stay Down

I was lucky enough to see them at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. So good. Neko wasn't there, and I doubt she'll be in Woodstock, but if she is, I'll be there.

I've seen them four times now - Dan Bejar was only at one of the four, and I've still yet to see Neko Case with them. They still put on a good show despite the missing band members (although as a Destroyer/Bejar fan, Dan added a LOT).

Go for Thao. She's great.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
