"Who has an 80-foot screen? We have an 80-foot screen."

This Kickstarter project aimed at saving the Greenville Drive-In in northern Greene County (right near the border with Albany County) also doubles as a succinct explainer on some of the challenges drive-ins have faced over the last few decades. The campaign is about halfway to its $19,275 goal with 24 days to go. (Thanks, Tim)

As a Greenville Central HS grad, happy to see this drive-in coming back -visits there were a high school staple, though I must admit, I have more memories of the socializing than the cinematic fare on display.

The Brasserie across the street and the Hollowbrook right next door would also make for great pre-movie dinner options.

I agree with Mike H! As a fellow GCS grad, the drive-in holds so much nostalgia for me. I cannot even begin to tell you how many summer nights were spent "watching" double features on blankets we'd spread outside.... (and probably sipping beers we'd illicitly snuck in.) Yes, it was more about the socializing.... and snacking on M&Ms and those nachos with the cheese that comes out of a machine.

In a town where there wasn't a whole lot for teens to do, the Drive-in provided some sort of refuge. I'm thrilled to see the efforts to bring this back and will definitely be throwing some money toward the kickstarter.

I've only been to the Greenville Drive in once a number of years ago, but it was a beautiful night, and the very cool interaction of the clouds and moon combined with the very remote location of this place created an amazing drive-in experience. Our family really likes the Hollywood Drive-In but we'll be hitting Greenville when it reopens for sure.

Hopefully they'll fix up the snack bar a bit because I remember it being pretty creepy.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
