Raging Bull
Monday: The AFI 100 series at Proctors is screening the Scorsese/De Niro classic Raging Bull in the GE Theater. Monday 2:30 pm / 5 pm / 7:30 pm - $5
Palace Pride Film series
Wednesday-Friday: The Palace is showing a series of films related to Pride Week -- with post-screening discussions:
+ Wednesday: Transamerica, discussion with transgender actress/activist Calpernia Addams.
+ Thursday: Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine, discussion with activist James Clementi, spokesperson for the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
+ Friday: Out to Kill, discussion with star Tom Goss.
Wednesday-Friday at 7 pm each day - $15 per film, or $30 for all three
The Search for Freedom
Wednesday: The Spectrum is showing The Search for Freedom, a documentary about some of the biggest stars in action sports (skateboarding, surfing, and so on). After the screening, there will be a Skype Q&A with wingsuit base jumpers Glenn Singleman and Heather Swan. Wednesday 6:30 pm -
Capital Pride
The annual Capital Pride celebration continues this week at various locations. The big pride parade and festival is this Saturday, June 13.
Rockin' on the River, Alive at Five
The free summer concert series in Troy and Albany start up this week:
Rockin' on the River
Wednesday: Rockin' on the River in Troy opens in the parking area near the Green Island Bridge with The BBSTREETBAND, a Bruce Springsteen tribute act. Opener is Rich Ortiz. Wednesday 5 pm - free
Alive at Five
Thursday: Alive at Five opens its season in Albany at Jennings Landing in the Corning Preserve with The Bad Plus + Joshua Redman. Opener is The Chronicles. Thursday 5 pm - free
#captureALB
This year's downtown Albany art/place exhibition -- it's called #captureALB and will include 10 large picture frames set up around downtown -- will start popping up later this week. (It's the series that had previously been called Sculpture in the Streets.) Friday evening there's an outdoor party in Federal Plaza Park to celebrate the new exhibit (Friday 5:30 pm - $60 / $40 age 30 and under)
