A bald eagle found dead after being struck by a car near Rochester earlier this month was 38 years old, the oldest eagle on record in the country, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Bald eagle populations had been almost entirely wiped out in New York State by the 1960s. But a program aimed at re-establishing them started in 1976 by relocating young eagles from other parts of the county, and it's successful rebuilt the population the state.
