"I'm not alone in being baffled by the candidacy of George Elmer Pataki."

Given that his chances of winning seem vanishingly small, why is George Pataki running for President? That's the question T.A. Frank looks into over at the National Journal as he follows Pataki around New Hampshire, exploring the psychology of longshot candidates -- and whether its the process of running for President, and not candidates like Pataki, that is flawed. I really don't get why Pataki didn't run back in 2008 and instead waited until 8 years later to finally do so. He seemed to be very focused on creating a legacy when he left office in 2006 so that he looked good in a presidential run a few years later. I imagine he would have been far more relevant and may have encountered more success if he he quickly transitioned over to presidential run after 12 years of being a relatively popular Republican Governor in a blue state.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
