"A war over maple syrup, like how pathetic can you get?"
Though it sounds like some sort of joke, there really is a strategic maple syrup reserve in Quebec and the province just to our north -- the Saudi Arabia of syrup -- has a cartel that control production and sales of the sweetener. An article over at the New York Times looks into how the cartel operates -- and the lengths it will go to enforce its authority, including seizing maple syrup from producers and posting guards at their farms.
