The Grocery checks out

The Grocery in Troy is being swapped out for a new cafe called Little Pecks (after Peck's Arcade next door), Steve Barnes reports. [TU Table Hopping]

Bummer. I really liked visiting whenever I'd come back to town. I even bought a T-shirt there last month - guess it's a collectible now!

In all seriousness though, I liked the combo retail/cafe thing going on. It reminded me a lot of the dearly-departed Mezzo in Albany, where I loved stopping for ready-made meals and a few grocery items on my way home.

I'm sure Little Peck's will be awesome though - Vic and Heather seem to have a sense for those things:)

That's so unfortunate. The grocery was a great neighborhood store. Especially in the beginning.

I liked the Grocery fine, but it didn't meet the need Troy had - and still has - for a more comprehensive grocery solution than the omnipresent bodega. It seems like the concept couldn't ever quite decide what it wanted to be, or what its customers wanted it to be, and suffered for it. The good news is that I'm completely confident Vic and Heather have more great ideas for the space than they can handle. Can't wait to see what Little Pecks will bring!

This does, however, make me all the more eager for Harrison's Corner Market to open. Come on, Shop team! Let's get going already!

I hope the new shop will keep the iced coffee and soft serve!

"It evolved into an ineffective sandwich shop."
That store gave a whole new meaning to "Troy slow". It would take them 10 minutes to make a sandwich. If there was another customer in the store it was impossible to get food and eat it within the 30 minutes lunch window,

@Tim

I think you're mixing up The Grocery with another restaurant called "McDonalds."

@s- Troy had a grocery store like you describe. A nice Co-op, but all the people who cheered it in the beginning because "it's what Troy needs" kept shopping at Wal-Mart and it went out of business pretty quickly.

Blergh- that is not at all what happened with the Troy Co-op. It failed bc it opened its doors with a crushing load of debt including the building that was purchased for a ridiculously high price. It was financially doomed from the start.
