Hello, September

September starts on Tuesday, so this year's Labor Day is late -- September 7. It's like an extra week of colloquial summer. So do all the summer things.

The Track

It's the last week of the season at the Saratoga Race Course. Military Appreciation Day is Wednesday -- all veterans and active duty military get free grandstand admission with military ID. Saturday and Sunday is the Final Stretch Festival. Saturday is the Woodward Stakes, a Grade 1 stakes race. Sunday is a giveaway day (long sleeve t-shirt). And Monday is the last day of the season.

County fairs

County fair season wraps up this week with three fairs around the region:
+ Tuesday-Labor Day: The Fonda Fair at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. (It's the county fair for Fulton and Montgomery counties.)
+ Wednesday-Labor Day: The Columbia County Fair at the fairgrounds in Chatham
+ Wednesday-Labor Day: The Schaghticoke Fair at the fairgrounds in Schaghticoke. (It's county fair for Rensselaer County.)

Baseball

It's the last week of the regular season for the Tri-City Valleycats. They're at The Joe Monday and Tuesday to face Brooklyn. And then after a short road trip, they're back home for a three-game home stand against Connecticut starting on Saturday to close out the regular season.

EMPAC

Wednesday: EMPAC starts off its fall season with two events. The first is a book launch party for Programming EMPAC: The First 4,158 Days.
