Riding the rails
There is such a thing as a rail bike -- basically a pedal-powered car for riding on trail rails -- and you can ride one in the Adirondacks, as Paul Post writes in NYT this week. At least, you can until the rails are taken out (if they're taken out). [NYT]

I've been keeping my eye on this story all summer having liked their facebook page back in June.... I don't have any argument against bike/snowmobile trails, however I would draw the line at putting two other businesses out of business in order to put one in. I really hope that a compromise can be made, I'd really like to try the rail bike... next year, when I have some money saved up for the trip.
