4000 Miles

Tuesday: This is the last week for Capital Rep's production the dramedy 4000 Miles. It runs through Sunday. Tuesday-Sunday various times - $20 and up

Tuesday: Gio Culinary Studio has a hands-on class about making "deliciously boozy cupcakes." Dark chocolate with Belgian chocolate Grand Marnier ganache, spiced rum cake with mascarpone cream, bourbon vanilla with salted caramel, chocolate frangelico with milk chocolate hazelnut butter cream. Silent Film Spectacular

Wednesday: The Albany Public Library's Silent Film Spectacular series continues with a screening of the 1924 version of Peter Pan with live soundtrack performed by Time Travel Bookclub. Wednesday 7 pm, APL main branch - free

Labor and its allies
Monday: Historian Steve Fraser will be at Union College for a talk titled "When Class Warfare was in Vogue: Labor and its Allies in the Struggle for Equality and Democracy." The talk is part of a semester-long program looking at income inequality, and is open to the public. Monday 7 pm, Nott Memorial - free

Adam Johnson
Tuesday: Novelist Adam Johnson will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series to talk about his new story collection, Fortune Smiles. Johnson won a Pulitzer Prize for his 2012 novel The Orphan Master's Son. Tuesday 8 pm, uptown campus, performing arts center recital hall - free

Medical marijuana
Wednesday: UAlbany's School of Public Health is hosting forum about New York's medical marijuana law. State health commissioner Howard Zucker will lead the forum. Wednesday 5:30 pm, UAlbany East Campus, George Education Center Auditorium - free

Visual journalism
Thursday: Graham Roberts will be at Skidmore for a talk titled "Seeing is Believing: Visual Journalism at The New York Times." A senior graphics editor at NYT, Roberts was part of the team that created that recent multimedia piece about how Justin Bieber, Skrillex, and Diplo collaborated on a song together. Thursday 7 pm, Palamountain Hall, Gannett Auditorium - free

Mel Brooks

Looking ahead to Friday night: Mel Brooks will be at Proctors for a screening of Blazing Saddles followed by a conversation and Q&A with the director/writer/actor. Friday 7:30 pm - $50 and up
