The Book of Mormon is back at Proctors this week.

Film Columbia

Monday-Sunday: The Film Columbia film festival returns, this year at venues in both Chatham and Hudson. The festival slate includes a bunch of films that are already getting attention because of screenings at other festivals and/or they're eagerly awaited because of stars or directors involved. This year's opening film is Suffragette. Tickets are $12 for day films, $16 for evening films. There are also festival passes for all films ($225) and all films + events ($250). Monday-Sunday various times

Sushi

Monday: Kathy and Yasuo Saso -- formerly of Saso's in Albany -- will be at Different Drummer's leading a hands-on class about sushi basics: California roll, cucumber roll, spicy shrimp roll. Monday 6 pm - $65

The Book of Mormon

Tuesday-Sunday: The touring production of The Book of Mormon is back for another run at Proctors. It's a popular show, and many of the performances will probably sell out (tickets are already "limited" or "very limited" for all but one performance). Tuesday-Sunday various times - $30 and up

Julius Caesar

Tuesday: An American Shakespeare Center production of Julius Caesar will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute. Tuesday 7:30 pm - $15 ahead / $20 day of

Silent Film Spectacular

Wednesday: The Albany Public Library's Silent Film Spectacular series continues with a screening of the 1927 film The Unknown with live, original score by Clank. Wednesday 7 pm - free

Arts and sciences

Colm Toibin
Tuesday: Novelist Colm Toibin -- "widely regarded as the leading Irish novelist of his generation" -- will be at Skidmore for a talk and reading. Tuesday 8 pm, Palamountain Hall - free

Generation Me
Tuesday: Jean Twenge -- a psychology professor at San Diego State and author of books such as The Narcissism Epidemic -- will be at Saint Rose for a talk titled "Generation Me: Has Individualism Made Us Better or Worse?" Tuesday 7 pm, Lally School (1009 Madison Ave) - free

George Mitchell
Wednesday: Former US Senator George Mitchell will be in the area to talk his new memoir at two events. In the afternoon he'll be at Albany Law (Wednesday 1:30 pm - free, pre-registration required). And then in the evening he'll be at Skidmore (Wednesday 7 pm, Zankel Music Center - free).

Mark Bittman
Thursday: Food writer Mark Bittman will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series to talk about his new book Bone to Pick: The good and bad news about food, with wisdom and advice on diets, food safety, GMOs, farming, and more. Thursday 7:30 pm, downtown campus, Page Hall - free

Tech and music
Thursday: Researcher/composer Rob Hamilton will be at EMPAC for talk titled "The Machine is the Message: How Technology Will Fundamentally Change Music." Thursday 7 pm - free

Burlesque to the Future

Looking ahead to Friday: C. Amanda Boutahorse's Cult Classics burlesque series will be presenting Burlesque to the Future -- a tribute to Back to the Future -- at The Hangar. Friday 9 pm - $15
