Elizabeth Kolbert: We are the asteroid
Tuesday: Journalist Elizabeth Kolbert will be at Skidmore for a talk titled "We are the asteroid." Kolbert is a staff writer for the New Yorker, where she's been covering issues related to climate change in recent years. And her 2014 book The Sixth Extinction won a Pulitzer Prize this year. Intelligence
Tuesday: Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner -- who developed the theory of multiple intelligences -- will be at Union for a talk as part of the Feigenbaum Forum on Innovation and Creativity. Tuesday 5:30 pm, Nott Memorial - free
Paul Farmer: The future of global health
Thursday: Medical anthropologist/physician Paul Farmer will be at Skidmore for a talk titled "The future of global health." Blurbage: "Dr. Farmer and his colleagues in the US and in Haiti, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, and Malawi have pioneered novel community-based treatment strategies that demonstrate the delivery of high-quality health care in resource-poor settings." The politics and mechanics of archiving
Thursday: EMPAC director Johannes Goebel will be giving a talk titled "Eternity and Megalomania: The Politics and Mechanics of Archiving." Thursday 7 pm, EMPAC - free
Edward Burns
Friday: Filmmaker/actor/screenwriter Edward Burns will be at UAlbany for two events as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series. Burns will first be on the uptown campus to read from his new memoir Independent Ed (4:15 pm, uptown campus, Lecture Center 5). Then he'll be on the downtown campus for a screening of two episodes of his TNT series Public Morals -- of which he's directs, writes, and stars (7 pm, Page Hall, free).
Impractical Jokers
Thursday: The Tenderloins Comedy Troupe -- stars of the truTV show Impractical Jokers -- will be at Proctors for a live show.
