At the starting line of last year's sprint.

The Albany Santa Speedo Sprint -- now in its tenth year -- is back December 12. And registration is now open.

The sprint is what is sounds like: a bunch of people in holiday-themed underthings running down Lark Street in Albany for charity. The event is organized by the Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy and is a fundraiser for the Albany Damien Center and the HIV/AIDS program at the Albany Medical Center. The sprints have raised more than $125,000 over the years. It's easily one of the happiest events of the year -- a bunch of smiles and a lot of cheering.

Here are photos from last year's sprint.

It's $25 to make the dash, and the first 175 people get a t-shirt. There's also a "super santa sprinter" $100 level that includes a special edition long-sleeve t-shirt. (And non-runners can chip in a donation of their own.)

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
