Mesh

Farther afield, but we thought interesting in light of recent talk about internet access in local cities and rural areas: There's an effort in New York City to build a large mesh network -- basically a collection of wireless networks -- that would connect directly to an internet trunk line, providing an alternative to TWC. (There's a similar effort in Troy, about which we're curious about learning more.) [Motherboard]

MASSIVE MESH COME TO NORTH CENTRAL PLZZZZZZZZZZZ

Would love to know what people's general experience with Massive Mesh in Troy has been. I'd love to cut the cord totally with TWC, but we're very reliant on our Netflix/Hulu/Amazon streaming, and I need very reliable access when I work from home. Is Massive Mesh at least as reliable as TWC?

Just moved to Troy at the start of the year. I was given 2 months of Massive Mesh for free through my rental agreement. So far, I have had no issues or complaints. It hasn't dropped out randomly, I stream Netflix every night, and I've had up to 4 people connected in my apartment at once using it heavily with no noticeable drop. The speeds aren't lightning, but it is pretty comparable to standard. I had Verizon previously while living just outside of Saratoga, and it was far far worse than what I've experienced so far with Massive Mesh. I will definitely be sticking with them once my 2 free months are over.

I'm basically the only person downtown I know that's given up Massive Mesh as it kept dropping out and I never got the download speed I was supposed to have. I work from home several days a week and since we couldn't get the issue straightened out (not for their lack of trying, btw, MM customer service was great), I had to switch back to TWC.

I'd be back in a heartbeat at a different location.

Huh. Neat! :) I don't live there, so it doesn't do me much good, but... Neat! =D

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
