For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

I always assumed those kind of holes and cracks came either from springs that feed the pond, or critters who broke the ice.

I don't know, but I saw them today and was mesmerized. They look like neurons!

I grew up around ponds and spent a lot of time on the ice. In my experience they are caused by people throwing objects at thin ice. The object goes through the ice and creates fractures.
