I love The Egg and the shows that I have seen there. I wish that they would do more with it!!!

All the stuff to do!!!

My favorite thing about Albany is Center Square in the summer. Everyone is out and about. Drinking on patios. People watching. Strolling through the park and catching a play. It's awake and alive and fun!

Speakeasy 518 -- awesome atmosphere, great service, delicious drinks, and no phones :)

Living in Albany is like being in a relationship with that nerdy-but-sexy guy in high school. His reputation for being boring means you get his awesomeness all to yourself.

Graney's Bar & Grill on New Scotland Ave.--pizza fries!

Washington Park!

The diversity!

I've only lived in Albany for a year and a half now and I feel like it's an exciting time to be here - development and restoration of certain areas of the city, more bike friendly policies, and increasing pride by residents.

State jobs. Seriously, a lot of Albanians earn s decent living from the State. Other upstate cities are in much worse shape.

The well-maintained sidewalks.

The Speakeasy is my current favorite!

It grows with you.
Moved here at 22. It was a perfect place to get started. Then advance in my career. Then buy a house. Then switch careers. Then have some kids. Then start new hobbies. Then join the PTA. Wherever you are in your life, there are others in the community to connect with, support, and challenge you.

The vibrant and ever growing stand up comedy scene!

That's easy. Washington Park: Lazy summer afternoons, early-evening walks on State Street and Willett Street, and the Tulip Festival.

The LEAD program. So good. So helpful.

There is so much I love about Albany! The city is filled with passionate people who encourage culture and exciting events of all kinds. Larkfest, tulipfest, PRIDE, Art on Lark, Santa speedo run, Dining Out For Life just to name a few. The coffee shops and restaurants are pretty great too!

WEQX/ all of the live music events! Thanks WEQX! We're so lucky to have an awesome radio station.

I love the history!

Seeing the plaza skyline welcome me back as I drive in from out of town

The free summer concert venues

I love the history!

My favorite thing about Albany is the meatloaf served at New World Bistro Bar...it's other worldly delicious!

I love the walkability of the neighborhoods! I can visit Washington Park, go to the movies, hit up a ton of bars, cafes, and restaurants, and never have to get in the car.

I love so many things about Albany.....I moved BACK to Albany from Boston, I like it here so much! The local music scene is great, fabulous restaurants, and the revitalized downtown is amazing. I'm a fan of Albany.

What don't I love about Albany?! But since I should write one thing, I'll make it the neighborhoody neighborhoods. I love the diversity of folks on these blocks.

Washington Park - especially when it's tulip time.

I love all the vegan food options!

Variety of interesting people, parks, and culture.

The local music scene.

The developing art community.

I personally like the Empire State Plaza and the Corning tower. It is a great place to take a walk, see a concert, have a picnic lunch or dinner, take in great views from the (tower) observation deck, and more.

Thank you

My favorite thing about Albany is that there are many walkable neighborhoods.

The things happening! There is so much more theatre and comic shows and food opening all the time.

Fort Orange General Store!!

The Arts and Entertainment that comes through on tour.

Two lines oblique sculpture in the empire state plaza.

Albany All Stars Roller Derby!

I love the emphasis on landscaping in the parks and in neighborhoods; The tulip plantings every year are so welcome in spring. I would love to see more of it!

Roller derby, of course!

Seeing the Capitol lit up in the evening while ice skating on the Plaza. It's rather beautiful.

A show at the Palace followed by drinks at the Olde English! :)

I love Capital Rep!

Just enough of a city feel without being so big that you feel lost; close to country so you can get away for a picnic or camping without driving for hours.

My favorite thing is that there is a little bit of everything. Good food? We have it. Shopping? Pick your mall. Music? TU Center, Palace Theater and Alive at 5 will do. Sports? Albany Devils, Siena and U-Albany basketball and Valleycats baseball. Whatever you need, Albany and the Capital region has it.

Great music and great food!

The Olde English Pub-the best place to grab a drink with friends!

Ice skating in the winter at the plaza and Swinburne park.

The development of the "warehouse district". Biergarten, Stout, Druthers, Ninepin, etc.

The State Museum.

I love our neighborhoods, the friendly progressive people, libraries, the Honest Weight Food Coop, and the affordability. It's a great place to raise a kid!

I have lived here my entire life(except for college!). I love how people get together every year and put on fund raisers to help support our community! The Arts, Ronald McDonald House, homeless, food bank, animals!! I try and do all I can to help!!

All the amazing food! Especially New World!

My favorite thing about Albany is the local scene of restaurants. We are becoming more and more diverse with food and I believe that more people are opening up to unique culinary experiences!

My kickball league, Empire State kickball at Lincoln park!

That it's growing in meaningful ways...

The ease of getting around. I can walk to Sunday brunch or drive 10 mins to malls and shopping centers.

My favorite thing is spending a lazy sunday getting coffe and seeing a movie a Spectrum 8

It isn't Clifton Park.

The Albany Institute of History and Art.

because I'm missing it in this snowy weather, Washington Park in late spring. Once, I took a lunch time walk through the row of lilac trees and felt like I was in a magical, flower-scented, world of my own. I'm looking forward to spending some time there once it's warm.

Despite all the complaints out there to the contrary, the variety of interesting things to do, eat, drink and see on any given day.

The Albany Symphony Orchestra

My favorite thing about Albany is that I live in a walkable city with lots of young people and things to do, but it takes no time to get out into nature. That's pretty awesome.

The yoga community!

My favorite thing about the city of Albany.........mmmmm, it's not just one thing.....my first thing is that you can get food delivered right to your door at all times of the day! Ha ha! (we used to live in a rural area and there is NO delivery out there! except for wood)........the other things are how easy it is to get around on the buses especially downtown to go out for dinner or hit up the bars or watch the Albany Devils play........which leads me to all the great restaurants all over the city (if you can't find something to eat, then you're not trying hard enough!)............and how easy it is to walk to great restaurants and bars............there is just so much here for everybody! You really can't say that there's nothing to do in Albany......cuz there is ALWAYS something to do! You just have to look! ; )

My favorite things about Albany are Oktoberfest and World Cup Soccer at the Biergarten. It's always so much fun, and when a group of people are collectively there to enjoy the same thing, everyone is SO happy!

I love the size of the city of Albany. Big enough that there are so many things going on in the community at any given time, but not too big or overwhelming to navigate as a newbie.

I love how Albany is a small city where you can really get know the people that live here. However, it's large enough that there's still a lot to do. My significant other and I frequent businesses such as New World and The Spectrum and always find ourselves meeting new people and having a good time. There's a strong sense of community that keeps growing and getting better.

My favorite thing about Albany is Capital Q. Their south carolina pulled pork is absolutely scrumptious and elicits an audible "mmm!" with each and every delightful, delicious bite.

Washington Park! I just came in from a snowy walk around the lake which I'd been waiting for all winter! I'll take it in April. :)

I work in Albany and live a short 15 minute commute out to where there's farms and orchards. It's really the best of both worlds. Albany, Schenectady and Troy have so many great things going for them, either cultural, culinary or recreational and all easily accessible. I've lived a lot of other places and the Albany area is where I want to be.

My favorite thing about Albany is summertime shows outside at The Park Playhouse in Washington Park.

The city perks with a close knit neighborhood feel, that is what I love about Albany.

I love knowing the bartenders at my favorite places, add a small town coziness to my outings!

Albany reminds me of that children's movie where the anthropomorphized, orphaned kitten is left to fend for himself against the big, bad street dogs and feral cats who are tougher and far more experienced than he could ever hope to be.

The audience doesn't expect much from this "undercat" -- he's small and scrappy, and, really, what does he even have to offer as the film's title character? Shouldn't the lead animal be that charming mutt voiced by Billy Joel?

But eventually, the audience falls in love with the unassuming creature, realizing how much personality and spunk and heart he has to offer, no longer doubting him for his small size or occasional lack of finesse. And sure, this kitty still has a lot to learn, and maybe he's rough around the edges, but he can still be the hero, and he can still run with the big dogs.

Like that beloved, tough little street cat, Albany manages to sneak into your heart, curl up on your lap, and cause you to see all of the good and beauty and heart and potential that exists in something that many choose to initially overlook.

My favorite thing about living in Albany, New York is the variety of things to do here for fun. There are a variety of events here and cultures. And Albany is more open than neighborhoods in New York City.

My favorite thing about Albany is Buckingham Pond!

I grew up on Lancaster St and I just love the Pine Hills area. Much has changed, but not the homes, Madison Theater or Price Chopper (my 1st job) I go out in Pine Hills often...still feels the same as when I was a kid. So glad St Rose preserved the Library on Madison Ave. My family's business is also still on Madison Ave., has been for over 50 years.

Loving the thought and effort going into the development of the Warehouse District. I really enjoy sitting down to a big breakfast and a soccer match at Wolff's Biergarten, and it's been fun to watch businesses follow Wolff's lead and turn a vacant neighborhood into a thriving entertainment area.

The rich history, including the invention of billiard balls, toilet paper, and magnets.

Washington Park on a weekend in the summer!

What I love most about Albany is really kind of everything. It has an amazing selection of food so I can enjoy sushi, Trinidadian, Indian, cheesecake, pub fare, and many other cuisines whenever I like. It is full of history and culture and the museum's are outstanding. There is abundant live music, theatre, and festivals. The libraries provide so many services, programs, and resources. And there is also plenty of room for improvement in Albany, leaving me with hope that we will grow together.

That it's my new home!

The people and the chillax vibe.

gawking at all the beautiful and historic homes throughout the city.

The truly organic and fluid nature of the growth of the region as a hub for everhting enjoyable.

The never ending entertainment at all of the local venues as well as many opportunities for adult recreation leagues

The community in Center Square, been here 21 years!

I just moved to Albany from Dutchess County. I love it up here! Everyone is so friendly and everything I could want or need is within 10 mins! There is so much to do here.

I enjoy the whole package Albany has to offer -- an assortment of good independently owned restaurants, the City events, the cultural offerings, the history, and the great people.

I love all the local resturaunts and the killer food.

The sense of community.

How uncool we are. :)

Love the Palace and Capital Rep!

I think my favorite thing is Albany's central location for exploring the outdoors of the berkshires, the catskills, the adirondacks, the green mountains, and of course the rest of the capital region! (also nine pin cider)

My favorite thing about Albany is the Delaware Avenue neighborhood and its fine food and entertainment, as well as walkability.

My favorite thing about Albany is all of the great shows! No matter if the event is at the TImes Union Center, The Palace Theater, The Egg, The Empire State Plaza, or any other venue, you are guaranteed to have a fantastic time!

Our new mayor. She's pretty energetic and resourceful. And has endless enthusiasm about what Albany can be.

My favorite thing about Albany is cider bellies. Hands down best donut/guilty pleasure in town

It's where I am.

Architecture

The history that is all over Albany...The Egg, Washington Park, cultural diversity, the food!

Everything! This is the perfect place to live and raise a family. The city itself has a little bit for everyone and anything it happens not to have you can find within a reasonable trip (draw a 3 hour radius around the city of Albany and you hit just about anything a person could ever need or want!)

I love how much it ebbs and flows, always changing and growing like it's alive. I also really love the fact that there are so many old houses full of stories

It's weird to pick a bar but I have to nominate Wolff's Biergarten. It has been the setting of many events in my 6.5 years in Albany. Several birthdays, countless soccer games, meeting many people (including my girlfriend) and enjoying many brunches & snacks.

It's no coincidence that Mark would be my favorite bartender if that was the question. It's just too bad that the success of the franchise has him there so much less!

Honest Weight - world class food co-op!

I love the variety of restaurants, local beers from Druthers and C.H. Evans, concerts at The Egg and The Linda, and the local history on view at the State museum and the Institute of History and Art.

I love all the trails/hikes Albany has to offer, and beyond that great running groups like ARE & HMRRC

I like that it's a small city with a lot of fun, interesting activities, but we're not overwhelmed with noise and traffic and crime. I feel safe in most places, most of the time.

I love the small city feeling of Albany- we've somehow got a normal pace of life and reasonable cost of living combined with the great attributes of an urban area- theater, urban parks, great restaurants, festivals, etc. And all this with easy access to the countryside, excellent skiing, mountains, and NYC.

I love Albany and the Capital Region. There are so many things around here to appreciate, in particular the bus system and independent shops. I'm a huge fan of the Honest Weight Food Coop. Possibly on the top of my list are the abundance of farms not too far away, as well as the amount of trails and outdoor areas in the immediate area. Also! How close we are to NYC, Montreal, Boston, Burlington!! So much to list.

Center square. The walk from the park to the plaza (almost) any time of year is always a lot of fun.

Loved living in center square, everything is in walking distance.

That we can have it both ways - city living and the wonderful outdoors.

I've lived in Albany for almost 20 years. My favorite thing (aside from all of the amazing places in town & great things to do) is the people! Every time I meet someone new, it's only a matter of time before the connection of knowing mutual friends comes up. It's amazing & it never fails. Sometimes the mutual connection is local, sometimes it's places like Boston or San Fransisco! The people that live in Albany love this place; they don't call it Smallbany for no reason! It's got something for everyone!

All the odd and interesting events that happen! Every week you can find something new to try and hopefully enjoy!

My family!

Its location - close to mountains and multiple major metropolitan areas

Family, friends, community

There are so many wonderful people and places in Albany! Park Playhouse has been one of my favorites for a long time!

Its food, its people, its location, and its parks.

There are so many things to love! First, the history. It was so cool to learn about the brewing history on AOA's tour in October. As far as my favorite places - I love the Speakeasy, Spectrum 8 Theater, and the countless other establishments that offer delicious food and drink. There's no shortage of things to do or places to try.

The new development in the Warehouse District

I love Albany because you can have both a city feel and outdoor feel as the same time. I can go to the Egg for a concert while the next day, I can hike at Thatcher park

I love tulip fest and a change of scenery from Saratoga!

Love cider bellies donuts!!!!!!!

All of the festivals at Washington park, especially the lights in the park in the winter over the holidays

I love that everyone knows everyone - Smallbany for the win!

If it has to be ONE thing, it has to be The Spectrum 8.

But then that leaves out El Mariachi, Wolff's Biergarten, Honest Weight Food Coop, and The Albany Devils.

There are tons of reasons to love this area, but I'm constantly reminded of how many great bars there are here compared to other cities when I travel. We are spoiled by the selection offered at many establishments.

The emergence of some really cool restaurants like Ama Cocina,

I love the variety of people in the Capital Region. At the park, in a pub, or on the street I always seem to meet great people!

City Hikes!

I love that I can walk out my door, pick a direction and walk to the Normanskill, the Plaza, Downtown, Center Square, Washington Park, Lincoln Park, New Scotland Avenue and so much more.

How about that new bike path?!

Happy happy AOA!

The people are the best thing about Albany!

All the outdoor artwork - especially the George Rickey sculptures (even if they're not all outdoors)!

Lights in the Park in the winter time!

I love so much about Albany. I've grown to love it a lot more because of AOA. Seriously! As a transplant, AOA has been an invaluable resource for me: where to eat, what to see, who to meet. Happy bday AOA, you're my fav thing about Albany.

The skyline, coming in from I-90.

The fact that it is so close to so many awesome things! There are a ton of great restaurants and places to grab a drink, easy driving distance to many major cities, and close to the mountains when we want to get outside.

The fact that we have easy access to both great entertainment and restaurants but also nature - trails, preserves, and proximity to the Adirondacks and Catskills. The location too - we're 3 hours from NYC or Boston, take your pick.

My most significant life experiences happened in Albany. In my 24th year I married my soul mate, got my Masters Degree and had my first baby - all in Albany.

I love the fine arts scene in Albany and the Capital Region in general. The amount of talent around here is astounding and it's wonderful to have so many opportunities to put it to good use!

There's a lot of good live music here, local and otherwise. It seems like it would be a challenge to find that elsewhere without moving to a busier, more expensive city.

The tulips!

Albany has connected me with some of the most creative, inspiring people. The city and it's people grow with you - I came here to head to college, now I live, work and pay my taxes here. Albany can support you in an time of your life - college aged, early twenties job opportunities, affordable housing (with amazing history), close to major cities and easy to travel to/from, great diversity, etc. There's a bit of greatness for everyone at any age, that's why I love Albany.

The D&H building

My favorite thing about Albany?? Too much to choose but gonna have to go with my fav on the brain...cafe capriccio!!

The libraries

I too love The Egg. I love the look of it from every angle. I love walking down Washington Ave in the morning and catching a glimpse of it between the other buildings. I like to stand under it and look up (although the curve of it can make me feel a little dizzy). I love the lit up beauty of it at night just before I drive under the plaza...
Also, there is no better place to see a show in this town.
'The Egg, no corners for you...'

The Hudson River bike path and 4th of July fireworks!

I love the opportunities to see good theatre! Cap Rep continues to amaze me season after season, but I've also seen amazing work at Albany Civic for a much more affordable ticket price! There was Shakespeare at the Ten Broeck Mansion this summer and I just saw a spectacular production of Agnes of God in the Masonic Hall for $8! Can't beat that!

The Low Beat! From its weekly lineup of great music to the best brunch in town, it has become my home away from home here in Albany

I love the always growing variety of amazing restaurants/bars with great food and beer.

My favorite thing(s) in Albany: walking around with my pug Rocco, seeing the friendly faces of my neighbors and stopping to chat, picking up a great book at the Albany Public Library, eating a fabulous croissant and coffee, getting ramen downtown, and walking barefoot on the Plaza on a warm night.

Location, location, bullseye. (The city is great, but I wouldn't love it nearly as much as I do if it couldn't get me so easily to great metropolitan areas, the lakes and mountains, and the rural countryside.)

I like that businesses interact well. The Co-op sells donuts from Cider Belly. Steuben Market sells bread from Bread and Honey. Bars and restaurants sell Nine Pin. Nine Pin and Albany Distillery have collaborated . . . it's a beautiful thing.

Corning Tower Observation Deck

The NYS Captiol... to work in the same building that passed gay marriage, a $15 minimum wage and whose halls were walked by Rockefeller, and the Roosevelts... it's priceless

Live music!

I love the architecture ... the stately buildings of the State Capitol, Albany City Hall, the Alfred E. Smith Building, and the Cathedral, juxtaposed with the funky Empire State Plaza complex!

I love all of the new developments in North Albany on Broadway and surrounding streets! I love that Albany is using its history to develop community now and for the future.

The New York State Museum, Empire State Plaza Art Collection and the Plaza (especially in the summer). Also, the Albany Symphony, Albany Berkshire Ballet and arts opportunities for kids. Brunch at the Iron Gate Cafe. Wide range of ethnic food. Accessibility to the rest of NY and the Northeast! And, I can buy my favorite coffee (actually Vermont Coffee Company Dark Roast) at my local Hannaford.

Park Playhouse!

The Many Moods of Sir Walford radio show on WCDB.

Cheap, safe, and close to interesting stuff, with smart moderately snarky (in a good way) inhabitants.

Allen Street Pub

My favorite thing is The Egg!

The Lark Street area.

I love Washington Park when the tulips are in bloom!

The history!

i love how it is right in between the city and the adirondacks

WABY 900 radio & but i never, ever win anything anyway!

Walking around downtown on a warm summer evening

Its my birthday week too! I love restaurant week in Albany which happens to start on my birthday this year! All the local places offer such delicious dishes that are unique and thoughtful. Its awesome to have a week dedicated to encouraging people to try the local cuisine!

i echo what Bridget said, even while I'm not there anymore - I loved seeing Albany grow in a new identity, the excitement surrounding its revitalization and discovery.

I think I'd have to say Tulip Fest! Its always feels like the start of summer/fun outdoor things to me!

Trivia nights with Joe Bellacosa hosting at pourhouse on Madison - Thursday's at 8

I love the walkabilty of my neighborhood; new restaurants like Navona and old favorites like New World; and how in a short drive you can be in the mountains or countryside.

The weather. You just have to roll with it! I was running in shorts on Friday and my fireplace is on today. Late summer and fall in the 518 is beautiful.

Washington Park, Park Playhouse, Tulip Fest, Capital Rep....

The NYS Museum, Empire State Plaza and the Egg, and the Pine Bush.

All Over Albany. I loved reading all the positive things people had to say about our city. I wouldn't know half of the awesome things if I wasn't a regular reader of your blog.

Amazing libraries! The buildings feel light and modern, the collection of books and other media is extensive, and they are free for all.

I love that the Albany area gets better every year. I moved here in 2009 and it had some good stuff going on. Now? It has some great stuff going on! Current top 10 list includes: empac, honest weight, la empanada llama, thacher park.

The walkability and architecture in Center Square and Downtown.

My favorite thing about Albany is the beautiful architecture of the Capitol Building!! It takes my breath away every time I am inside there, especially the Million Dollar Staircase! It also makes me appreciate the historic significance of the Capitol and all the work that goes into keeping our state running smoothly (agree or disagree).

Thanks for the opportunity to enter!! What a great giveaway!! :)

My favorite thing is, depending in the season, walking or skiing in the Pine Bush preserve.

My parents house and how great it is to just walk around the city at night

There's always so much to do! If you get bored in Albany, you must be a boring person! So much history, food, and great places to go!

All of the amazing eateries and the walkability of downtown!!

Going to dinner and a Siena game at the TU with friends and family!

I love that Albany is the town where I feel like I finally grew up and became an adult. My first apartment is here, as is the first place where "just a job" became a career. I've been told that in the time I've lived here, I've really come into myself and become much more self-assured.

My favorite thing is that it's home! I never respected Albany much in my youth and went away to college to get out of town but I'm so happy to have come back. It has so much to offer as far as eats, arts venues, events, lovely communities with lovely people of various interests, sites to see etc. And everything is within reach; NYC, the various mountain ranges, not to far from coasts to beach it in the summer.

I love walking around the city, from the Helderberg neighborhood, to Buckingham lake, to the Egg, to the lake front. It's such a beautiful city with so much to appreciate all across it. It s my favorite thing to wake up early on a weekend, and go for a walk. These often turn into longer adventures, which is great because it also gives me an excuse to try out new watering holes for snacks! I love being in a city where I can have these adventures all the time, and enjoy a stroll all over.

My family lives so close

All the activities in the summertime, every weekend it's a chore to only pick a few to go do.

I love Albany because:
2.5 hours to Boston and NYC.
3.0 hours to the ocean.
Winter brings Jimminy Peek, Gore and West.
Fall is full of beautiful color and apple picking orchards.
Spring brings beautiful tulips in Washington Park and summer brings Alive at Five, SPAC and the race track.

Nine Pin Cider

The people and how we connect in the 518. Love being a part of the art scene here.

My wife.

Lark Street!

New World Bistro!

It's hard to choose, but believe it or not I really love working in downtown Albany! Everything is a quick walk - Pearl Street, the ESP, Lark St....tons of great restaurants, food trucks and shops. In the summer there is a farmer's market at the end of State St. and events at the Corning Preserve. It's so nice to just be able to walk everywhere during lunch or after work.

I like summer nights boating on the hudson at sunset

The Heldeberg neighborhood off New Scotland. Our home were our baby was born. And it just happen, walking distance to the pizza at The Fountain and the delicious tap lines at Beer Belly.

The concert A City of Immigrants An homage to the cultural heritage of the Region captured so many things that are good about this area.

The great mint brownies at The Spectrum!

I love all the festivals in Washington park in the summer. Already excited for tulip fest!

Of all the places I've lived, Albany has been the easiest place to make friends. Making friends is incredibly difficult to do as an adult, and it's awesome when you do.

I absolutely love New World!

I love that Albany has developed a good deal of culture. From a variety of musuems, restaurants featuring all types of cuisine, a wide range of arts performances, and pretty much every recreational activity you can think of, there is always a great experience to be had!

My favorite thing about Albany is the spectacular display of tulips and canna lilies throughout Washington Park every May!

The Egg, Washington Park.

Lark Street!

Walking through Washington Park seeing all the different people enjoying the park in different ways.

Cap Rep!!

Albany Devils Hockey! How can what keeps me going through these bleak winters be anything but awesome! One more reason Albany doesn't suck!

All of the different neighborhoods make for such a dynamic and vibrant place to live and raise a family

I love looking at all the beautiful tulips in Washington park during the spring.

I grew up in Albany and I love it here. Living in the Heldeberg neighborhood off New Scotland we can walk to the different restaurants on New Scotland and enjoy great food. We can also take a #13 bus & be anywhere downtown to enjoy the restaurants, museums, cap rep, the ESP, and all the beautiful architecture there is to offer! There is just so much to do and enjoy in and all around Albany! i feel very lucky to have been born and raised in Albany (LA-Lower Albany to be exact)!!

Washington Park.

I love Albany because it is easy to get around, by walking, or bus, or bike. It has everything: theater, Art, music, food, work, beautiful parks, and Wonderful people.

I love how walkable our neighborhood is and we probably spend way too much time at the Gastropub.

Shows at the hollow are always a blast

Albany is a great place to get away to for the weekend. There's plenty of paved to grab some good food, catch a show, and enjoy a weekend out.

Old cobblestones from 300 years ago showing through the pavement!

Memories! As a young girl whose Dad drove from Hudson to Albany every day to work in the big city. In all kinds of weather, no super highway, waiting for him to come home for supper late. Always sharing his day, clients he met, where he went for business lunches & what he ate. He kept us updated on what was new in the city, revitalization of downtown, building the Empire State Plaza, how this would help Albany grow. And sometimes on weekends, going shopping, out to lunch and a show with my family. I still remember how exciting it was and still is to come to the Capital of NYS. History, theaters, restaurants, jobs, shopping, tourism & transformation with preservation, thank you!

Kurver Kreme!

The speakeasy!

The ways lives can intersect in multiple ways, aka Smallbany

Chester's Smokehouse

WAMC. A treasure of the region that, I feel, Albany makes possible.

the community. really, there are some stellar people doing some amazing things here. it's awesome to watch and be apart of.

The architecture, the history , the beauty. From the days in Washington park to listen to music by the river. So many hidden gems.

I love the availability of fresh, local, organic food plus the sense of community I've found at Honest Weight Food Coop. Also, living in center square and having Washington Park in my backyard is a huge amenity!

I love live music of every kind!

New World Bistro!

I love the Albany skyline, the Tulip Festival and all the great restaurants!!

The location- there are so many things to do here and even more in every direction.

Diversity; history; well priced events and rwataurants

State museum, the Spectrum with its popcorn, Albany Symphony

The state capital so majestic!

All of the awesome restaurants and bars!

I love the variety! In ten minutes time you go from the cobblestone streets of downtown to the winding back roads. From the bars and restaurants to the hiking trails and lakeside retreats. Every day can bring a new adventure!!

I love the history of Albany and the capital region. I love the tangible history, I honestly can't get enough.

The amazing locally owned eateries and restaurants, especially Cheesecake Machismo and El Mariachi on Hamilton... Best dinner/dessert combo, and conveniently right next to each other!

The diverse architecture, history, and proximity to major cities like NYC, Boston and Montreal.

I love the variety of arts, music, and events in Albany.

Somebody commented awhile back that a waitress told them Albany was so uncool that it's actually cool. I like her that way, all uncool and gawky like Ugly Betty or Baby Houseman or Andie from Pretty In Pink with Duckie riding his bike by a hundred times a day.

Sitting in front of the Capitol at noontime, listening to the church bells....Brings me to a different time.

We love to take our daughter through the State Museum. I remember going through as a kid and now I get to take my family through. We just love the history of New York and this history of Albany.

Albany has everything ... resturants , concerts , sporting events , pubs , theater , and last but not least the history .

I love walking around the Capital and the Plaza.

I enjoy the State Museum and visit often. There's just so much there to see.

I love the weather 8 months out of the year. Especially autumn, seriously, autumn here is gorgeous. And though the weather currently sucks, in a couple of weeks all will be forgotten and it will be lovely.

Our restaurant scene is so good right now. So much great stuff, and so little time to eat it all!

I love my neighborhood. I live in the Melrose neighborhood. It's quiet, clean, and everyone is friendly.

I love the plays in Washington Park, the stating rink at the plaza and my job downtown! Born and raised here, I love my home !!!

an amateur photographer's treasure trove

Albany is a wonderful city to walk through appreciating the architecture, history, and neighborhoods, and noticing what changes and what stays the same. Plus, I love AOA. You do a great job in keeping us in the know.

My favorite thing about Albany (and there are so man things to love) is its place in history. Such an important place, connected to so many important historical figures. When I walk the streets downtown, I am often reminded of this, and it makes me very proud to live here!

Mr Harris.... The legendary but now retired bartender from Washington Tavern. He is an icon in the local nightlife scene

I love the people I've met here most. It's a great city with lots of fun things to do, but when I think of my favorite things, it comes dow to the people I've met there.

I love the beautiful skyline and all the different neighborhoods that you can walk through with many different things to do! Plus you are not far from getting out in nature for some hiking or camping when city life drains you :)

All the things not so well known things to do that I find out about.

My neighbors.

Regardless of what anyone says, the Albany area offers a decent quality of life.

Gotta be the New York State Museum.

Capital City Gastropub

My favorite thing about Albany is that it actually has personality. I lived in southern virginia for a few years and the only thing you ever saw there was chain restaurants and chain big box stores. There was only one place that had charm and you had to drive almost 50 minutes to get there.

Andy & Sons Italian deli... Specifically the chicken calabrese sub

There are so many great things to do in this area. From concerts, to plays, to hiking, you name it Albany has it. I'm a big fan of food and Albany has delicious family run restaurants all within a short walk or drive. Be happy that you live in such an incredible place!

What isn't there to love in Albany! But my favorite would be Washington Park since I enjoyed many events, walks, bike rides and family activities together.

The history!

Capital Hills Golf Course

Shows at the Egg!

The diversity of activities. It's a city full of nightlife with pockets of small town charm and only 20 min to get to some great farms for summer/fall outdoor fun.

Washington Park in the spring/summer. I love seeing everyone come out of hibernation and enjoying the best that the city has to offer.

All of the great restaurants and food trucks!

Our walkable neighborhood - near the Fountain, Beer Belly, etc.

I love the food and drink being produced in Albany by companies like Cider Belly, Nine Pin, Druthers, Albany Distilling Co, Crisan, and Stacks!

Concerts at the egg and tulip fest are my favorite things about Albany!!

My favorite thing about Albany, is the strong sense of community. With all the new and upcoming developments in the works, I am so excited to see what we can do with this wonderful city! GO ALBANY! WOO!!

I just moved to Albany from Richmond, VA and I never realized how much there is to do here! There are amazing restaurants and local craft beer! I have definitely never seen anything like the egg!! And the pizza, its amazing especially compared to what I was used to!!!

All there is to do once the warm weather starts! Tulip fest, Alive @ 5, Fork in the road!

The cool old houses!

The unique architecture!

Going to concerts at the palace and other local bar venues, and of course all the food options!!

The lovely street festivals, like Lark Fest!

Having grown up downstate, I have to say that hands down it's the people. I find that there is an openness, a friendliness, and courtesy that just isn't present in the city. The pace isn't quite so hurried and I think people stop to smell the roses just a little bit more in Albany.

I'm grateful to live here now! :)

The community is my favorite thing about Albany. A lot of different people from different backgrounds live in relative harmony around here.

My favorite thing about Albany are all of the wonderful ethnic eateries. Love Central Avenue!

Definitely Washington Park in spring time!!

My favorite things about Albany are all the free outdoor events (Alive at 5, Tulip Fest, Pearlpalooza), First Fridays, lectures at the universities, and all the great restaurant options!

Favorite thing about Albany is the centralization of so many cultures, and the fact that you're two and a half hours from either the city, or the mountains.

The Palais Royale

walking down lark street in the early morning to get a breakfast sandwich from Daily Grind.

Art museums, performances, nature, four seasons, history, a convenient airport, and the Hudson River. Can't just pick one thing!

I love that Albany is a walking city.

The changing seasons! Each season has it's own special activities, from ice skating at the plaza in the winter to jumping into fresh alpine lakes in the summer!

Access and quality of craft beer, wine and food.

I am a big fan of the Albany Institute of History and Art and the State Museum and Library, the archives are amazing! Plus the collection of Books is grand! The beauty of the Capital and Empire Plaza. The Pizza at Dino's, Noho, Soho and Sapienzas! The Sushi at Shogun and Kumi Ami. The cultural and sporting events at UALBANY, SAGE, St. Rose, Seina and Albany law are wonderful. The Tulip Festival, the Santa Run, Latin Fest, and the Holiday Lights in Washington Park! The Races: Corporate Challenge, Last Night, Albany Running Exchange, etc...Wall climbing at AIR, lifting weight at Albany Strength, ice skating on the plaza, tennis and volleyball in Washington Park. Price Chopper and Capital Car Exchange and CDTA. First Fridays Art events! There are so many things to do and love about Albany.

Where to start? There is so much to love. The manageable size--small enough to be a community yet big enough to offer a diverse array of culture, restaurants, events, recreation.

I love the list in this giveaway. It is so perfectly Albany - all great places that represent the city and they immediately bring to mind all the other great places in the city.

There's so much that I love about living here, it's nearly impossible to choose. Perhaps my favorite regular moment, though, is on a Sunday morning walking to church down Willett Street. It's peaceful and quiet, but with the low hum of fewer cars than usual and the sound of birds and occasional conversation from others out walking. I'd extend it through Washington Park, especially on a crisp, foggy morning. While I have loved this city for years, those are the moments that make me happy just to be alive.

The Palace Theatre

My favorite thing about Albany is all of the great local events like Tulip Fest and Alive at Five.

Walking around downtown after 5 with my dog. Once all the workers have gone home for the day, downtown is quiet and you can really appreciate the older architecture and character Albany still has.

The arts and entertainment; so many great concerts, can't ever complain there's nothing to do around here!

The Park Playhouse!

Washington Park, NYSM, AIHA, Cider Belly, Lionheart, and Cafe Capricco!

The increase in interesting and diverse places for diving into food in and around Albany is such a good thing. Also, Albany is so photogenic. My favorite place to snap some pics is in the area around the Empire State Plaza. I can't get enough!

The beautiful Morgan State House and gardens.

I love all of the places there are to run - the golf course in winter, the rail trail, the Corning Trail, Washington Park and, of course, all the streets. My running friends live in the suburbs but come into town to take advantage of the variety in terrain and routes.

The Summer season. When all the outdoor downtown events start popping. It's such a great city to live in, especially during the warm weather.

The people of course, they're what makes everything else in these comments what they are. They bring this City to life and make it what it is... What is Washington park without the cast of characters lounging on the grass with you? What is your favorite restaurant without the people who make the service? Without their blood, sweat and tears where would be? It's all about the people and you won't find people like Albanites anywhere else in the world...

My house in the Helderberg neighborhood! Walking distance to great restaurants and bars, Sage College and the parks! I love it!

The people. The food. The abundance of things to do, and the close proximity to other fun places if you run out of things to do here.

I might have said this before, but I think it bears repeating. My favorite thing about Albany is its deep history, literally. As in what's buried beneath us. I had the unfortunate instance of burying deceased pets in the backyard several times (18 year old cats). Each time I dig about two feet down, I usually find a turn of the century bottle. Equal exchange? Ha! Either way, people's past burnt and buried "trash" reminds me of what our land and city used to be.

The NYS Museum, Lark St, Tulip Fest in Washington Park, New World Bistro, The Spectrum
