Chuck D
Monday: Hip hop titan Chuck D will be at Siena for a talk. He is, of course, a founder of Public Enemy. In the years since founding the group, he's also been a political activist, writer, producer, radio host, and collaborator with all sorts of artists. His talk at Siena will be the keynote lecture for the college's annual Hip Hop Week. Monday 7:30 pm (doors at 7 pm), Sarazen Student Union -- free (first come, first sit)

iThink Creativity Lab
Monday: There's another iThink Creativity Lab "think tank" night at the Sage Albany campus. "SCA Dean Joanne Curran will lead the sessions using a model of creative thinking fostered by Alex Osborn, the executive who coined the term 'brainstorming.' Participants will work with college professors and students to develop potential solutions to problems of their choice." Monday 7 pm, Kahl Campus Center -- free

Isidro Blasco
Tuesday: Artist Isidro Blasco will be at the Opalka Gallery on the Sage Albany campus for a talk about his work. "Isidro Blasco uses digital photography and common building materials to assemble three-dimensional constructions that reconstruct interior spaces and outdoor environments and explore vision and perception." Tuesday 6:30 pm -- free

Recurrence
Wednesday: Artists from the Recurrence exhibit Union College's Mandeville Gallery will be at Union for a talk about their work. "In the exhibition Recurrence, artists Kira Nam Greene, Juan Hinojosa, Simone Meltesen, Karen Schiff, Sam Vernon, and Rachael Wren delve into the multitude of ideas surrounding repetition in the visual arts and how these different ideas are represented visually." Wednesday 5 pm, Nott Memorial -- free

Film

Of Horses and Men
Monday: Icelandic actor Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson will be at The Linda for a screening of the film Of Horses and Men. "Benedikt Erlingsson's dryly witty 'OF HORSES AND MEN' is like an animal documentary, but about people. Life revolves around mares and stallions in the film's windswept terrain, but the animals' orblike eyes direct us to the many follies of their owners, who are driven by petty desires and, occasionally, courage." Sigurðsson will answer questions after the film. Monday 7 pm -- general admission free (VIP mixer is $25)

Silent Film Spectacular
Wednesday: The Albany Public Library's Silent Film Spectacular series returns for a new season with a screening of the 1913 film A Message from Mars with live, original score from Nelson Esposito Quintana (NEQ) and Bob Resnick. Wednesday 7 pm, Washington Ave branch -- free

YouthFX
Wednesday: The YouthFX program has an encore presentation of its 2016 slate of new films at The Spectrum. The teen filmmakers and program directors will be there for a Q&A after the screening. Wednesday 6:30 pm -- $10 / $5 students

Marwencol
Wednesday: Director Mark Hogancamp will be at Skidmore for a screening of his documentary Marwencol. Blurbage:

After being beaten into a brain-damaging coma by five men outside a bar, Mark builds a 1/6th scale World War II-era town in his backyard. Playing in the town and photographing the action helps Mark recover his hand-eye coordination and deal with the psychic wounds from the attack. But when Mark's homemade therapy is discovered and deemed "art", he's forced to choose between the safety of his fantasy life in Marwencol and the real world that he's avoided since the attack.

(The film is being adapted by Robert Zemeckis for a feature film starring Steve Carell.) Hogancamp will be at Skidmore for a Q&A after the screening. Wednesday 6:30 pm, Palamountain Hall -- free

Startup Tech Valley

Wednesday: The Startup Tech Valley series returns to Rev Hall in Troy with a new round of short presentations from startup companies. After each company presentation, there's also a short Q&A session. Wednesday 5:30 pm -- free (registration required)

The Lion King

Tuesday-Sunday: A touring production of The Lion King continues its month-long run at Proctors. It is, of course, the hugely-popular musical based on the Disney movie. Tuesday-Sunday various times -- $20 and up

Fortunately, Artist Ken Ragsdale has agreed to step in to discuss his multi-layered process that includes graphite and charcoal sketches, schematic drawings, building 3D objects out of paper and photographing them, all to stunning effect.
