AOA birthday drawing: Something Rotten, The Producers, The Trip to Bountiful, Tala

AOA8 drawing theater composite

Drawing's closed!

It's AOA's birthday week. And you could get the presents! To celebrate eight years of AOA, we've pulled together a whole bunch of great Capital Region stuff and we're holding a different drawing every day this week.

Today's drawing has a dash of drama. One winner will get:
+ A $50 gift certificate to Tala Bistro
+ A pair of tickets to the Broadway touring production of Something Rotten at Proctors next January.
+ A pair of tickets to The Producers at Schenectady Light Opera Company this May.
+ Four tickets to Capital Rep's upcoming production of The Trip To Bountiful this April.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What is something dramatic in the Capital Region?

Maybe it's a view. Maybe it's an issue. Maybe it's a change. If you think it's got drama -- we want to hear about it. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.)

We'll draw one winner at random. That person gets the whole basket of prizes.

Important: All comments must be submitted by 1 pm on Friday, April 8, 2016 to be entered in the drawing. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by midnight on Friday and must respond by 5 pm on Monday, April 9.

This year? - how we thought it was spring and winter came roaring back to bite us in the behind!

The Empire State Plaza at night!

The view of the sunset on State St looking up from Broadway.

The Albany skyline

The view of downtown Albany approaching from the east on I-90.

The Park Playhouse. Dramatic, free, beautiful, and full of talent!

Politics

Cohoes falls. Normanskill gorge. The Blackhead range to the south looming over the albany skyline.

The politics, of course.

The TU table hopping blog is quite dramatic!

The view of Albany from the Patroon Island Bridge (west bound). Preferably at night. Once you get out over the river, the view is quite striking, or dramatic We locals have grown accustomed to it, but for an outsider it's like entering Gotham.

The politics

TroyBot is dramatic

The Egg

Ummm...Springtime weather.

The Price Chopper layoffs this past week

The view of Albany county on an autumn sunset from atop Thatcher Park or the sight of the frozen falls on a clear winter's day.

Albany's winter was dramatically different from the one before!

The view from Thatcher park is pretty dramatic.

The ever-exciting swirl of politics, from the crowds of eeping fans to the marvel of American freedom, the many protests!

You can't make this stuff up!

The Cohoes Falls especially if there had been a big spring melt....guess it won't be quite as dramatic this year!!!

The Albany skyline before a storm.

The dramatic rise of great eateries in Downtown Troy!

The NYS Assembly

our reactions when someone even remotely famous comes to town ;)

Something dramatic in the Capital Region, how about we're four months into 2016 and we haven't had a single legislator indicted yet!

The Albany High School Theater Ensemble's fantastic, dramatic Promising Playwright's Festival!

The Albany High School renovation vote...

Washington Park in the spring

The food scene in the area has dramatically changed in the last 25 years - in such a positive way!

A snow storm on April 4.

The night lights on the Capital

I agree with the spring weather being dramatic! :P

The changes in downtown Schenectady

Political views

The downtown residential resurgence in Schenectady, Albany and Troy. People are starting to move back to the hearts of our downtowns, in a 'dramatic' way!

When all the tulips bloom in Washington park.

The Governor, for sure.

All of the openings and closing of restaurants in recent years.

All of the productions at the Capital Rep!

The cliffs of Indian Ladder Park!

The debate about the location of the first European settlement near the city. The debate about the historical preservation of many of the older city buildings and the destruction of neighborhoods to build the Empire State Plaza.
The discussion of the removal of parts of 787 to bring the city back to the Hudson.

Definitely Albany's skyline!

The weather.

the egg

Presidential nominees flocking to the area before primaries! Ugh.

The Mighty Hudson River!
From the high peaks to the skyscrapers & beyond Beautiful...Majestic...Gateway to the World!

Political opinions!

The view of the Albany skyline from Thatcher Park.

Albany Is Broke! at least that' what I keep hearing...

Standing under the Corning Tower and looking straight up!

The staircase at the Capital is dramatic.

The politics.

Driving on the Northway in the snow.

When the horses make the turn to the homestretch at the Saratoga Race Track.

I'm use to it now but my out of town friend's think the tri-level traffic ramps around 787/90/the plaza are dramatic!

Opinions about 787!

The amazing growth and limitless potential of theatre in the Capital Region.

The car commercials :)

The changes taking place in Schenectady are dramatic.

We have certainly had some pretty dramatic politics in the Capital District over the years - from 'Client 9' to the three men in the room...hopefully corruption is behind us now. (!)

The view of Albany from Thatcher Park and the view of downtown from I-90 is great. Always liked the view from the now closed rest area.

the Albany skyline with the Egg front and center

Washington Park in the spring, the tulips are pretty awesome, but the park as a whole coming into bloom is quite dramatic!

The sunrise and sunset views from Thatcher Park

Our unexpected snow storms in April

Heading west towards Albany on I90 when the skyline comes into view.

The bell tower and Academic Podium at U. Albany were certainly intended to look dramatic. Today, to a newcomer, they seem both dated and unexpected in comparison to "standard" collegiate Gothic architecture.

The talk of how the former albany convention center site will be developed

all of our opinions =)

The plaza on a starry dark night! Its looks like something out of a sci fi novel

The Lion King at Proctors and Maroon 5 at the Times Union Center!!!

Park playhouse

Gates opening on Travers day

The Plotterskill falls, especially when frozen.

An April snowstorm.

The view from Thacher Park!

Capital Repertory Theatre is dramatic

That one guy at the Latham Farms Hannaford has a dramatic laugh. You can hear it all through the store. You think, this guy is nuts. Then you find out he checks out 4 carts for each cart the rest check out. You hear his crazy laugh, and you think, thank God, I will get through this, I will survive this! You feel like Admiral Peary reaching the North Pole and all you did was check out efficiently.

The progress on Schenectady's new casino area! It has gone from a brownfield to a buzzing construction site with a completed shell of a hotel and many steel girders hinting at what's to come!

The multiple layers of ramps and bridges surrounding Albany

The political scene

Sunrise over Round Lake. So lovely, so dramatic.

Downtown Albany's rebirth, from Wellington Row and the DeWitt Clinton, the new convention center to the warehouse district, Albany is coming back to life.

The landscape!

The change of seasons is certainly dramatic...especially when it happens several times in the same week. (And I second Bill's laugh at Hannaford Latham! Dramatic laugh and wonderful guy.)

It has to be the Cohoes Falls. A beautiful scenic site.

That there will not be a new Albany High School but only a partially renovated school and the subsequent vote fiasco

The political corruption

The jarring disconnect between the Empire State Plaza and the quaint neighborhoods around it.

The Union and RPI hockey teams when they play against each other

The wonderful shows that come to Proctors, The Palace, The Egg, and CapRep

Certainly the variety architecture is the most dramatic -- that austere plaza all straight lines, juxtaposed against the one-of-a-kind Egg; the ornate Capitol building and Education building; the 1800s/early 1900s row houses and brownstones of Center Square, complete with cobblestone roadways; the unique UAlbany concrete campus . . .

The way a storm rolls through across the river.

Thacher Park

The Legislature.

Parking in Center Square!

Driving into Troy from Alt Rt 7 at night.

The Egg! It's really unique.

The loudspeaker tower at UAlbany.

The lion king at Proctors

Albany symphony!

The beer scene here! Changing. Getting better. Getting competitive!

Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat

The taste of the cheesecake at Cheesecake Machismo is dramatically delightful.

The Capitol stairs on a quiet night.
