The farmers market for sure

Oh Troy, let me count the ways...

Is it your burgeoning new life? The new shop owners, architects, artists?

Perhaps a cool new coffee bar eatery?

Or the river and the way the sun feels on my face at sunset?

Ah, I know. It's the people. It's my best friend around the corner, the people I routinely run into on my walks around the city, and the new people I continue to meet!

The Ruck

Illium cafe.

The farmer's market, best in the region

The Joe at HVCC

My favorite thing about Troy is the walk-ability of it, and the number of great restaurants!

Albany's little brooklyn.

Before Wednesday's party? Hands down it would have been DeFazio's but now it's a tie between them and the Tech Valley COG!

The bike/walking path that runs below Oakwood cemetery. Waterfalls in Troy, who knew?

Hands down a cherry raz at Browns. My husband and I love it so much we had it on tap at our wedding.

I love that Troy seems to be where all the wonderful new restaurants and shops are opening. It seems like all the creative people in the capitol region are gravitating towards the city to come up with new and interesting things to do.

The camaraderie and support that Trojans give each other. Whether it's planning an event with multiple organizations, hosting a communal meal, or acting as mentor to a new business. I feel like everyone has got each other's back.

The potential for great nights of every kind--romantic fancy dinners, tipsy bar crawls, casual trivia nights at Bacchus, and everything in between.

The passion of the people who work and reside there.

Spillin the Beans breakfast + remote working!

The people!

Yes the walkability. Yes the places. Yes the produce. But most of all the community.

The farmers market

All the food and farmer's market!

Downtown Sunday morning walks.

The Wings at Brown's ooor pizza at DeFazio's

That non-existent stop sign at the corner of 1st and State that makes it easy to identify bad drivers.

The Troy Turkey Trot

Being surrounded by beautiful buildings. Living in Latham, it is such a breath of fresh air to get away from the strip malls!

Troy Farmers Market.

Although I am a Russell Sage alum, and have loved the walkability, architecture, and stores of Troy since then, my favorite thing now is definitely the Farmer's Market. It is the best in the Capital Region, and it has driven the revitalization and many new business in downtown.

The farmers market is amazing

I love the walkability and diversity of all the shops and eateries. The camaraderie of the merchants and sense of community. I frequently see merchants visiting and supporting each other.

The History, the old, beautiful buildings, and the sense of pride people from Troy have!

The clean, even sidewalks and well maintained and plowed streets...HAHA RIGHT.

Fav thing is Brown's Brewing!

With so many great options its hard to narrow the list to just one. To avoid the obvious I'm going with a new kid on the block - Nibble Donuts

The Troy Pig Out!

The patio at Brown's

Brown's, Illium Cafe, Dino BBQ, and The Joe.

So many good eats. They make for a great stop after a hike in the nearby Birks!

The farmers market and Troy Kitchen

The Confectionary/Peck's

the farmer's market! I look forward to when it moves outside every summer :)

Nibble donuts :)

I love the Ruck year round and getting patio drinks at Dinosaur BBQ in the summer

Slidin' Dirty & Brown's Brewing Company!

Troy is packs a real big punch for a tiny city. People have pride and are excited about their town here; they speak positively about it and encourage more people to discover it's awesomeness.

On first visiting Troy, I was reminded of Brooklyn and the Bowery/E.Village when it had an edge. Walked over to Illium Café and was entranced. The Ruck, Browns, Dinosaur BBQ, Beirut Restaurant, Carmen's Café (only Cuban place for miles), Bachus, the downtown-walkable city and the potential it engenders make this the great promise of the capital region. Keep developing the waterfront, please!

Anytime I want to be energized, I'll make the pilgrimage to admire the old buildings and imagine the change it becomes--while respecting it's history.

The Joe.

I'm sure a lot of people can agree, but the amazing sense of community and the people who live in Troy.

We've lived in Troy for almost two years now and the relationships we've built here with the people that live and work in this area have been a wonderful gift that we didn't expect to come across.

I love my lunchtime walks down along the river, up to view the city from the Approach, or to Placid Baker to sit and sketch the beautiful buildings. And I love that I had a first date in one of them and will be getting married in it later this year!

Having a beer on the patio at Browns while the bands play at Rockin on the River

Vic Christopher

The farmers market and Brown's.

The stunningly beautiful architecture!

The people and the rhythm of the architecture and streets - both in downtown Troy but also its less-discovered corners in Lansingburgh

Maureen Stapleton

Great beer, from Brown's to Rare Form!

Going to say the architecture, but there's so much to love about this awesome city.

My favorite thing about Troy is Pecks Arcade!

never thought much of Troy, was always an Albany guy. the other side of the river was just THAT "the other side of the river".
now, however i appreciate downtown Troy and the effort(s) to save it!

Troy savings bank music hall; baguette from placid baker

You can park and walk all of downtown Troy, starting with farmers market then wherever your feet take you!

The Music Hall

Heartspace Yoga & Healing Arts, right beside Lucas Confectionery. Such great 10:30am vinyasa flows every Saturday and Sunday!

Brunch at B-Rads is the best :)

Farmer's market!

Uncle Sam.

Slidin Dirty

Memories of Revolution Hall in the early/mid 2000's

Peck's Arcade and Rare Form Brewing!

Rockin' on the River, the Pig Out and the view of the sunset over the Hudson

Love the Waterfront Market during the spring/summer. When it's nice outside, there's not a better Saturday morning activity!

The Daily Grind- the vibe, the food, its the perfect hangout spot.

What's not to love about Troy? Troy has character! The people, the restaurants, and the shops all have their own unique personality that makes each experience new and exciting! Brown's Cherry Raz helps, too.

The fact that I can walk to everything downtown, yet still feel like I'm in my own little bubble at home at the far end of South Troy.

The amazing beers and the bars and breweries that make and serve them.

B-Rad's brunch.

The sense of community I've found since planting roots here.

The gorgeous architecture - and, more importantly, the idea that preservation and history is important. I see a lot of people buying old buildings and (with *some* exceptions) restoring them to their original glory instead of tearing them down and building new (and often rather ugly) structures. Troy is a beautiful city and I'm glad to see it become more and more beautiful and historically relevant with each passing year.

Russell Sage

The Tequila wings from Ale House!!!

Anything and everything from Illium Cafe

Troy is progressive, the businesses have old school values but keep up with modern times. The people living there are friendly and genuine, I love Troy,

Does my apartment count? Well, if not, then I'll say it's the walkability. Unrivaled in the Capital District!

The donuts :)

The pride.

Troy is my home now and when I was a kid living in Rotterdam, I thought Troy was gross. What I love about Troy is the odd architecture that can be found down in South Troy. I love that my neighbors are born and bred south troy, i'm a newbie, and RPI students and young professionals live next to me. It's a walkable downtown and and easy mile walk for me to get to things that I find exciting. On that mile walk I go past churches, synagogues, colleges, libraries and the court system.

It's an eclectic city that is reachable for those looking to be "hip" and those looking to be involved. The community is there, if you want it to be. That's what I love about Troy.

Daisy Bakers! Right, they're gone.
Troy Pork Store. Oh wait... hmm...
Sentinel Butchery! What's that, they're closed too? Drat.
The Grocery. Final answer.

Peck's Arcade

Art, technology, good food, higher education all packed into this walkable micropolis with beautifully preserved historic architecture!

Sunset from the Approach.

Love that the riverfront is right in downtown.

The Farmer's Market, and Brown's!

Dino BBQ and Browns!

Scenic views from good eats & brews such as Dinosaur barbecue & Browns.

Troy is my hometown. Grew up in Troy. Met a girl in grade school in Troy. Attended community college in Troy together. Got married in 1995 and 4 years after we purchased a home in Troy. We Enjoy Troy together.

Footsy Magoo's! Love to play games.

The food!! From the donuts at Nibble to the tea at the Whistling Kettle to the BBQ at Dino, it's all amazing

Saturdays in the summer time. The Farmers Market, Live Music and an outdoor patio for a pint

I love looking down the hill from the RPI campus at the views of the gorgeous downtown buildings and the Hudson. I love the restaurants where you can sit on the water. I love the blossoming food scene.

The farmers market during the summer

farmer's market

Washington Park

Some one earlier said walkability and they hit the nail right on the head. I have been waiting for spring to arrive so that I can walk downtown and head to the farmer's market or go to Finnbars for a pint. Everything you need is right there. The Placid Baker, Confectionary Wine Bar, Whistling Kettle, Spill'n the Beans, the Hill. The list goes on and on. LIVE IN AND LOVE TROY!!!

All of the delicious food!

I love that Troy's waterfront is still accessible and intact -- not blocked by industry or a highway. Much more than any other city in the region, Troy feels like a town on the river and the Hudson feels like a part of the town.

I really love the architecture and close knit community feeling. Also, the restaurants and bars popping up are awesome!

Closest Turkish restaurant in the Capital District! :)

Love the architecture is coming alive again and buildings are being filled with artists and small businesses, and those shops and studios are being patronized by Trojans and visitors and the small city feels alive.

All of the great food!

Capital District Educational Opportunity Center

The Shop! Such a great bar

All of the great food!

Running on Troy Time. Having the understanding that if you live and work downtown leaving the house 15 minutes early is essential. Running into any one the many Troy "action figures" on your stroll down the sidewalk will definitely develop into a deep discussion about what is being put into the monument hole...the new restaurant that Vic and Heather are opening, the crazy wind that has been happening lately or merely what drinking hole your going to be at after work. After saying work you realize how late your going to be so you hurry to say goodbye...and after leaving 15 minutes early your still late for work. That's running on Troy Time!

#beer

The Tri-City Valley Cats!

There are just too many places, faces, and food to pick one. The way I can sum it up...my favorite thing about Troy is it's character. It is like no other place in the Tri-City area. Great shops, great restaurants, constantly changing, a diverse city, a strong community, great arts, great in so so many ways. Like a little town really. Love Troy forever!!

The people, of course....they make me feel like I have grown up here! Thanks Troy!

Rockin' on the River, Farmers Market, Valleycats... Summer's in Troy are my favorite!

Love the walkability. Moved here from the burbs and rarely use my car. Excellent restaurants and bars within a ten minute walk. And Brown's is still the best!

My father was born in Troy!

Ali Baba's bread!

you cant name one thing and thats the best part of troy, there are too many great things about this historical city. If your lucky enough to live in troy like myself you know what im talking about.

I love all of the new businesses that keep opening in Troy. It's becoming such a great spot to go to. I also can't get enough of the pretzels at Browns. I could take a bath in that honey mustard sauce!

that Troy has come back from a place called Troy-let to a place that appreciates it architecture, reinvents space, has top notch restaurants ranging from ethnic to experimental, and brews beer. collar city!

The farmers market, the community gardens, and running into friends whenever out and about. And I adore the many Linden planted along the streets.

The Turkey Trot!

Everything about downtown! The mom & pop boutiques, bistros, coffee houses, book stores & more! There's so much history AND revolution packed into 1 square mile 0.0

Prospect park

The Architecture, Culture, and the wonderful people I have met here.

The Hill at Muza is awesome. The owners are so warm and friendly and the site is very comfy and has treats for every season... the beautiful flowers and outdoor seating in the nice weather and the heaters outside and cozy inside space in cooler weather! The drinks and food make it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy!

The stretch of Fulton Street that has First Choice Caribbean and Shalimar. Good eats!

Brown's and Muza :)

How every musician that plays at the music hall praises the acoustics and sings something special.

My favorite thing about Troy is that I don't have to live there.

Frear Park. I love sledding there!

Riverfest!

The farmers market!

My favorite thing about Troy is the summer Farmers Markwt followed by breakfast at Illium.

Food and entertainment options

So.many things to love about troy from the loud streets to the amazing ambiance to the amazing food to the dynamite beer. All seasons there is something to love. Its where i met my true love my husband so troy will always have a special place in my heart.

The farmers market

Walking around on a Satrday afternoon and being able to find a variety of store fronts, people, and restaurants. There is nothing pretentious about Troy. It's fun, has attitude, and still has a humility to it.

Absolutely the people. Its a real community with a grassroots mentality. Although Troy has a lot of troubles like any city, Trojans know how to work together to make magic happen.

Musical performances at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

Knowing people in community.. Browns, Chris at Ryan's Wake, staff at Spill the Beans, a bloody Mary at Daily Grind, The Hill at Muza ... Sage campus where the memories of grad school make me smile. Many friends and family still there. My roots and my heart will always be Troy.

Franklin Plaza and the Farmer's Market

Downtown's Renaissance. New restaurants, lovely new shops, the arts center, the TVCOG and the fabulous farmer's market.

Troy is the present (farmer's market, great pubs, cool neighborhoods) but also the past (Oakwood cemetery, the memories of Troy blog, neat architecture, the Music Hall). I truly believe that it holds a lot of potential for the future!

The farmers market!

The Victorian Stroll,
the walkability,
the Mom & Pop shops

I grew up here in the 70's when all was closing down. My dad was born here in the 40's when the city had a 'center', life and jobs. Many of my family members worked downtown including my mom. Now, I see the life again! It was never like that when I was young. My father shops there regularly and my sister works downtown. My husband thinks it's the coolest city he's seen. I love seeing it through other people' eyes.

Outdoor farmers market

Walking the Troy farmers market with friends and watching our children
Dance to the local musicians music

And also eating a cheese platter at Ryan's wake

Living in Washington park!!!

I love the emotion that I feel whenever I am in my amazing hometown! I love the people, the pride, the energy, the beauty and camrodary that are pulling me closers and closer to being a part of this amazing re-creation. One of my favorite places in the world! Thank you!

Bacchus Wood-Fired.

WRPI! #EnjoyTroy

The Shop. Awesome brunch and cocktails.

Best thing is the consistent openness to/facilitation of new small businesses. This should maintain the steady growth there nicely over coming years.

All the good beer within walking distance :)

We love the excitement that new shops, people and students bring to the area. It is like a flower that we are finally seeing bloom for the first time!

Pecks!

The old world architecture with the new world shops.
From Footsy Magoo's to Brown's Brewing Company they offer the best in barley & hops.
There is something for everyone like the Whistling Tea Kettle or Famous Lunch. They offer the best in hotdogs and brunch.

It's right over the bridge from my home!

I love all the little shops and variety of eateries all over Troy.

I think all of the comments are great. They hold a lot of truth to what people love about Troy. For myself, I feel that Troy is its people. People who love and are passionate about the things they do, the life they lead in Troy, the comradery , the networks they build.
How neighborhoods come together when there is a crisis, pipes freeze in the winter, someone has passed, when there is a celebration. We are resilient. When I think of Troy and the wonderful things going on here... I think of the love people have in their lives and the love that makes Troy what she is. This is my Troy.

The Farmers' Market!

Favorite thing is all the amazing restaurants and shops!

Troy is one of the Capital Districts best kept secrets. There are so many events that go on all year round, there is always something to do whatever the season. The restaurants are great, and so many great stores and boutiques. The farmers market is super and with many venues right along the river, or very close, it has a charming appeal. Some of my favorite places - Brown's, The Whistling Kettle, The Illium Cafe, Market Block Books, Fun Cycled....too many to name.

Troy has been doing so many positive things for the area; from last Friday's to the farmers market. Troy is really showcasing how great the city can be & is becoming!
