"Cities still make plans, because they can do things."
Over at The Atlantic there's a list -- "Eleven Signs a City Will Succeed" -- compiled by James Fallows after a three-year tour of small and medium-sized cities and towns around the United States. It covers topics such as local boosters, partnerships, schools (of all sorts), downtowns, and even craft breweries. It's anecdotal, but it's an interesting way of thinking about some of the factors that can help cities thrive. [The Atlantic] [via someone on Twitter, whom we forgot because we lost the link]

I read that piece when it first came out, and had to take a second-look at the headline. I thought for sure it was a profile piece on Troy.
