Presidential primaries
Tuesday is presidential primary day in New York State. And for the first time in many years the results will actually have some influence on the races, both Democratic and Republican. Don't know where to vote? Check with the state Board of Elections website.
Albany Word Fest
Monday-Saturday: Albany Wordfest -- the annual celebration of poetry and spoken word -- continues with events around the Capital Region. The lineup includes readings, open mic events, storytelling, and poetry slams. Monday-Saturday various times and venues
Arts and sciences
Pam MacKinnon
Monday: Tony Award-winning theatre director Pam MacKinnon will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series. This talk is the annual Burian Lecture. Monday 8 pm, UAlbany Performing Arts Center -- free
The sharing economy
Tuesday: Albany Law is hosting a series of discussions about issues related to the sharing economy, including a panel discussion about taxi-app companies such as Uber and Lyft. Tuesday 12:30 pm-6 pm -- free (registration required)
Voting rights
Wednesday: Ari Berman -- author of Give Us the Ballot: The Modern Struggle for Voting Rights in America, -- will be at Saint Rose to talk about the Voting Rights Act, along with recent Supreme Court decisions and their expected impact on the 2016 election. Wednesday 7 pm, St. Joseph's Hall Auditorium -- free
Pushing the Limits of the Creative Process in Media
Wednesday: Artist/scientist Bernd Lintermann will be at EMPAC to talk about his work creating interactive media for museums, stage performances, concerts, and projections. Wednesday 7 pm -- free
Typography
Wednesday: Tim Brown -- the head of typography for Adobe Typekit and Adobe Type -- will be at Opalka Gallery on the Sage Albany campus April 20 for a talk organized by AIGA Upstate New York. (Typekit is a subscription font service that provides fonts for many, many websites. It, and services like it, have been become a key part of the behind-the-scenes tech that makes the modern web appear the way it does.) Laura van den Berg
Thursday: Author Laura van den Berg will be at the State Museum as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series. Her most recent work is the novel Find Me, "an imaginative, darkly funny story of a young woman struggling to find her place in the world as a plague sweeps the country." Thursday 8 pm, State Museum Huxley Theater -- free
Emily Nussbaum
Thursday: Emily Nussbaum -- a film and TV critic for The New Yorker -- will be at Skidmore to talk about her career and other media-related topics. Thursday 7 pm, Palamountain Hall -- free

Silent Film Spectacular
Wednesday: The current season of the Albany Public Library's Silent Film Spectacular series continues with a screening of the 1925 film Clash of the Wolves with live original score performed by Kimono Dragons. 7 pm, Washington Ave branch -- free
Roxy: The Movie
Wednesday: The It Came From Schenectady series at Proctors has a screening lined up of Roxy: The Movie, a Frank Zappa concert documentary. Alex Winter -- the film's director (and also that Alex Winter) -- will appear via Skype afterward for a Q&A. Wednesday 7 pm -- $12
A Taste of Albany
Thursday: A Taste of Albany returns to the State Museum. The Capital Region culinary showcase includes wine, food, and entertainment. Proceeds from A Taste of Albany benefit Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless. Thursday 5 pm -- $75
MOVE Music Festival
Looking ahead to the weekend: The MOVE Music Festival will be back in Albany with a hundred acts playing shows at multiple venues around the city Friday and Saturday evening. This is the last week to see Abraham Ferraro's installation "Every Which Way" at The Arts Center in Troy.
On Sunday, April 24th the artist will be giving a talk from 1pm-2pm in the gallery. This event will coincide with International Sculpture Day. Reception to follow.
