Monday: The Palace's movies series is showing the Alfred Hitchcock/Jimmy Stewart classic Rear Window. Monday 7 pm - $5 / $3 kids

The Trip to Bountiful

Tuesday-Sunday: Capital Rep's production of The Trip to Bountiful continues. The show is the story of Carrie Watts, an aging widow who escapes from the home of her son and goes on a journey to revisit her childhood home. The show stars a number of talented Capital Region actors, including the amazing Barbara Howard, Kevin Craig West, Tony Pallone, and newcomer Joshua Powell. Tuesday-Sunday various times -- $20 and up

Arts and sciences

Breathing Lights
Tuesday: Artist Adam Frelin and architect Barbara Nelson will be at Opalka Gallery on the Sag Albany campus to talk about the Breathing Lights project set for neighborhoods in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy this fall. It won up to $1 million in funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Art Challenge. Tuesday 6:30 pm -- free

Les Paul's Big Sound Experience
Wednesday-Thursday: The touring exhibit Les Paul's Big Sound Experience will be at Saint Rose. Blurbage for the interactive exhibit: "The giant, state-of-the-art traveling exhibit will take visitors behind the scenes and into the world of the music legend. Guests will be able to mix and share music, explore Paul's sound, music and technology innovations, witness how Paul pushed the limits of audio technology and learn how Paul's inventions and techniques have formed the foundation of live and recorded music enjoyed by generations." Wednesday-Thursday noon-8 pm, outside the Hearst Center (996 Madison Ave) -- free

North Central: Reduce & Repurpose Vacant Buildings
Wednesday: The Sanctuary for Independent Media is hosting a community meeting about vacant buildings in Troy's North Central Neighborhood, with conversation about plans from the city of Troy, Habitat for Humanity, the Troy Community Land Bank, TRIP, and Breathing Lights. Wednesday 6 pm -- free

Richard Russo
Friday: Novelist Richard Russo will be UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series. Russo will be reading from his new novel, Everybody's Fool. It's a follow-up to his 1993 novel Nobody's Fool. Friday 8 pm, downtown campus, Page Hall -- free

Startup Tech Valley

Wednesday: The Startup Tech Valley series returns to Revolution Hall in Troy with another round of short presentations from startup companies. Wednesday 5:30 pm - free (registration required)

Amy Schumer

Thursday: Amy Schumer will be at the TU Center for a stand-up show. Schumer's star has been steadily rising. A few years back her stand-up act was getting a lot of press, then her Comedy Central show got strong reviews. And then last year she starred in the film Trainwreck, which she wrote (and Judd Apatow directed) -- it brought in almost $140 million at the box office. Her appearances here in Albany have tracked that path: a sold-out show at The Egg in 2013, a show at The Palace in 2014, and now the TU Center. Thursday 8 pm -- $39 and up

Champagne on the Park

Thursday: The annual Champagne on the Park party is in Washington Park near the tulip beds. Blurbage: "here will be live music, champagne and food tastings by all your favorite Lark Street area restaurants." It's a fundraiser for the Lark Street BID. Thursday 6 pm -- $80

Tulip Festival

Looking ahead: This coming weekend is the annual Tulip Festival in Albany, with events Friday-Sunday in/around/near Washington Park, including traditions such as street scrubbing and the crowning of the Tulip Queen. And, as usual, there will be music on two stages, both national and local acts.

Mother's Day

Just a reminder that it's Sunday. Your mom is the best, so if you don't have already have plans, you should make them now. (That's especially true if you're hoping to go out to eat somewhere that day -- if you don't have reservations, stop this very moment and make them.)
