Tulip Festival
Friday-Sunday: This weekend is the annual Tulip Festival in Albany, with events in/around/near Washington Park, including traditions such as street scrubbing and the crowning of the Tulip Queen.

And, as usual, there will be music on two stages, both national and local acts.

1st Friday
Tulip weekend begins with 1st Friday. Shops and galleries around the region will be open late on Friday with art, performances and other surprises.

+ Albany Barn Stage 1 gallery is hosting Child's Play, an exhibition inspired by the whimsy and angst of childhood.
+ The African American Cultural Center of the Capital Region will display a new collection of African masks.
+ Iron Gate Café is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Patio Party.
+ Crazy Feet will headline the monthly 1st Friday Swing Dance -- $15 / seniors and students $10

Basilica Farm & Flea Spring Market
Saturday-Sunday: Basilica Hudson hosts Basilica Farm and Flea, "a variety of makers, collectors and farmers harnessing the spirit and beauty of the Hudson Valley." Saturday 10 am-6 pm / Sunday 11 am-5 pm -- $5 admission / under 12 free

Richard Russo
Friday: Novelist Richard Russo will be UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visiting writers series. Russo will be reading from his new novel, Everybody's Fool. It's a follow-up to his 1993 novel Nobody's Fool. Friday 8 pm, downtown campus, Page Hall -- free

Bikefest
Saturday: The Troy Bike Rescue celebrates 15 years with its annual Bikefest party at the Sanctuary for Independent media. A dance party, burrito & pancake bar, cake, cash bar, games and raffles. Saturday 5-9pm -- $20 suggested donation

The Producers
Friday-Sunday: Schenectady Light Opera opens its production of Mel Brooks The Producers . Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm -- $22, $24 & $28

Laughter on the 23rd Floor
Friday-Sunday: Albany Civic Theater opens a production of Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor, inspired by Simon's time in the writer's room at Your Show of Shows. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 3 pm -- $18 / $10 students

Clybourne Park
Friday-Sunday: Schenectady Civic Players opens a production of the Tony-winning Clybourne Park, playwright Bruce Norris' response to Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun -- set fifty years later in the same suburban neighborhood. Friday & Saturday 8 pm, Sunday 2 pm -- $17

The Trip to Bountiful
Friday-Sunday: Capital Rep's production of The Trip to Bountiful continues. The show is the story of Carrie Watts, an aging widow who escapes from the home of her son and goes on a journey to revisit her childhood home. The show stars a number of talented Capital Region actors, including the amazing Barbara Howard, Kevin Craig West, Tony Pallone, and newcomer Joshua Powell. Friday-Sunday various times -- $20 and up

Elephant's Graveyard
Friday-Sunday: Confetti Stage presents a production of Elephant's Graveyard, George Brandt's play based on the true story of the Tennessee town that hanged a circus elephant for murder. Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2pm -- $15 / $10 for students

Comedy

Nobodies of Comedy
Saturday: Proctors presents the Nobodies of Comedy -- a stand-up comedy tour by some of the most promising up-and-coming comics. Saturday 8 pm -- $28

Improvapalooza
Friday: The Mop & Bucket Company opens its Improvapalooza season at Proctors with guests Am I Right -- the Capital Region's only all-female improve troupe. The teams will play shortform improv games and create songs and scenes based on audience suggestion. Friday 8 pm -- $16

Drive-in season is officially underway. Here's what you can see this week:

Museums
Wander through one of the Capital Region's museums:

Masterworks Paper
In honor of its 225th anniversary, the Albany Institute of History and Art is showing some rarely-seen paper items including manuscripts, letters, architectural plans, photographs, ephemera, silhouettes, and maps spanning three centuries in its newly opened Masterworks Paper exhibit. Many of these items can't be exhibited often or for extended periods due to their sensitivity to light. On display through October 16.

Imaging the American West
The exhibit Imaging the American West: Selections from The Metropolitan Museum of Art continues the State Museum. It includes works by artists such as Albert Bierstadt, Paul Manship, Georgia O'Keeffe, Frederic Remington, and Charles M. Russell. It will be on display through July 17.

MASS MoCA
MASS MoCA has two recently opened exhibits: Sarah Crowner: Beetle in the Leaves and The Space Between.

Arkell
The Arkell Museum has has exhibitions about Rembrandt's influence on printmakers and the work of Edward Buyck.

Alma Thomas
The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College has its exhibit of the bright, colorful paintings of Alma Thomas. It's on display until June 5.

Sculpture parks
With the nice spring weather, maybe you'd like to explore some sculpture parks around the region.

Free Comic Book Day
Saturday: Participating comic book shops around the Capital Region will celebrate Free Comic Book Day by handing out free comics. All branches of the Albany Public Library will also be offering a variety of free comic books.

Albany Devils playoffs
Sunday: The Albany Devils will be at the TU Center for game three of their Calder Cup playoff series with the Toronto Marlies. Sunday 5 pm -- $23 and uip

Friday Night Lights
Friday: The Friday Night Lights high school baseball program continues at Joe Bruno Stadium. Averill Park and Pittsfield face each other at 4 pm, and then Shen and Ballston Spa play at 7 pm. It's a fundraiser the American Cancer Society. general admission $5

Seasonal ice cream stands around the Capital Region are open.
