Tuesday-Sunday: A touring production of the Broadway musical Once will be at Proctors for the week. The show is based on the film of the same name, and won 8 Tonys on Broadway. Blurbage: "Featuring an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments onstage, ONCE tells the enchanting tale of a Dublin street musician who's about to give up on his dream when a beautiful young woman takes a sudden interest in his haunting love songs. As the chemistry between them grows, his music soars to powerful new heights... but their unlikely connection turns out to be deeper and more complex than your everyday romance." The Trip to Bountiful

Tuesday-Sunday: This is the last week for Capital Rep's production of The Trip to Bountiful. The show is the story of Carrie Watts, an aging widow who escapes from the home of her son and goes on a journey to revisit her childhood home. The show stars a number of talented Capital Region actors, including the amazing Barbara Howard, Kevin Craig West, Tony Pallone, and newcomer Joshua Powell. Tuesday-Sunday various times -- $20 and up

Front Parlor

Tuesday: The Front Parlor storytelling series is back at The Ale House in Troy. This month's theme is: "It is what it is: Stories (of things) beyond your control." Tuesday 7:30 pm

Arts and sciences

Diversifying the environmental movement
Tuesday: Sierra Club president Aaron Mair will be at Union for a talk about climate change and diversifying the environmental movement. Tuesday 5:30 pm, Nott Memorial -- free

Science Cafe
Thursday: The State Museum's Science Cafe series will be back at the City Beer Hall. State Paleontologist Lisa Amati will be giving a short a talk about observing evolution, and then host Craig Gravina will open things up for audience Q&A. Thursday 6 pm -- free (food and drink not included)

The Countess Constance Markievicz
Thursday: Historian Bo Smith will be at the Albany Institute for a talk about the Countess Constance Markievicz. Blurbage: "To mark the centenary of the catalyzing event of Ireland's twentieth-century independence movement, Smith will explore the extraordinary life and character of the rebel aristocrat, Constance Markievicz. Too outlandish even for the script of Downton Abbey, the Countess' story defies comfortable categorization and reveals the tensions that roil contemporary historiography." Thursday 6 pm -- free

Playoff hockey

Tuesday and Thursday: The Albany Devils continue their Calder Cup playoff series against the Toronto Marlies at the TU Center. Tuesday and Thursday 7 pm -- $23 and up

Murder at the Vanities
Thursday: The Murders, Morals, and Music series organized by the Pine Hills Film Colony at the Madison Theater starts withe a screening of the pre-code 1932 musical Murder at the Vanities. Thursday 7 pm -- $10

On Screen/Sound
Thursday: The last installment of the spring season of the On Screen/Sound series at EMPAC "presents two films with sonic and visual elements constructed through complex tracking shots." Thursday 7 pm -- $6

Several instruments that Atoui has been developing concurrently will be played throughout the public spaces of EMPAC and broadcast into the Concert Hall." 8 pm -- free
