Tuesday-Sunday: Capital Rep opens its production of A Night with Janis Joplin (it was in previews this past weekend). Williamstown Theatre Festival
Tuesday-Sunday: The Williamstown Theatre Festival's season continues with a production of the Tennessee William comedy The Rose Tattoo, starring Marisa Tomei, on the main stage. And on Wednesday The Chinese Room opens on the Nikos Stage (it runs through July 23). various times -- $40 and up

Park Playhouse
Tuesday-Saturday: The Park Playhouse in Albany's Washington Park continues its production of Chicago. (It runs through July 30). Tuesday-Saturday 8 pm -- free on the lawn / reserve tickets $16 and up

Stories

Tuesday: The Front Parlor storytelling series will be at The Hangar in Troy. This month's theme is "Abby's Birthday/Fashoro-Lublin Goodbye Party" (it's a farewell for organizer Abby Lublin). After storytelling DJ Trumastr will be spinning music for a dance party. Tuesday 7:30 pm -- free admission

NYS Writers Institute

Monday-Friday: The NYS Summer Writers Institute continues it series of public author readings at Skidmore. This week's schedule:
+ Monday: novelist Mary Gaitskill (The Mare, Don't Cry, Veronica) & poet Carolyn Forche
+ Tuesday: poet Frank Bidart (National Book Critics Circle Award for Metaphysical Dog) and novelist Mary Gordon (The Shadow Man, Final Payments, The Stories of MG)

Wednesday: The owners of the downtown Troy group of businesses that includes The Confectionery and Peck's Arcade -- Heather LaVine and Vic Christopher -- will be the featured guests of this month's meeting of the local Startup Grind series (it's at The Confectionery). 1791 Club: Introduction to Print Making
