"I run a horse every day, almost every day I never get a chance to go to the Grandstand to just enjoy the races"
Over at the Saratogian, Teresa Genaro talks with folklorist Ellen McHale about her new book Stable Views: Stories and Voices from the Thoroughbred Racetrack, which focuses on the lives of the backstretch workers at tracks such as Saratoga -- people who often don't get much if any attention during the pomp of racing season: "They're very skilled, and for many people, this is a way of living that is integral to them and I wanted a positive way to bring that out."
(McHale will be at Nortshire Saratoga Tuesday evening talking about the book.)
