Design stop

Long story short: We were thinking about bus stops and bus shelters today and ended up on this Pinterest page with bus stop designs from around the world, and there are a bunch of interesting examples. (So maybe you'll enjoy scanning through it, too.) It seems like it's hard for shelter designs to strike a balance between providing good protection from the elements (something we've appreciated on a many windy winter day) and not being a heavy visual element along the streetscape. (Tradeoffs... such is life.)

Who designs the current bus-stops we have? The CDTA? Do they have architects / designers on staff? Do they subcontract out? Who has the final word on what it looks like? I think the answers to those questions can go a long way in explaining why our bus-stops look the way they do (no judgement being levied here) compared to some of the more interesting looking ones on Pinterest.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
