The Philadelphia Orchestra will be performing The Firebird this week at SPAC with ballet dancers and puppets from the same people who created the puppets for War Horse.

The Track

It's the third full week of the season at the Saratoga Race Course. (And, of course, there is no racing on Tuesday.)

Stories

Tuesday: The Front Parlor storytelling series is at The Hangar in Troy. This month's theme: "parental guidance." Tuesday 7:30 pm -- free admission

Stage

Park Playouse
The Park Playhouse in Albany's Washington Park opens its production of The Little Mermaid, adapted from the Disney film. (It runs through August 27.) Tuesday-Saturday 8 pm -- free on the lawn / reserve tickets $16 and up

Williamstown Theatre Festival
Tuesday-Sunday: The Williamstown Theatre Festival's production of Wendy Wasserstein's An American Daughter continues on the main stage. (It runs through August 21.) And on Wednesday a production of And No More Shall We Part, starring Jane Kaczmarek and Alfred Molina, starts on the Nikos Stage. (It runs through August 21.) various times -- $40 and up

Philadelphia Orchestra

The Philadelphia Orchestra continues its summer stay at SPAC. This week's schedule:
+ Wednesday: "Track & SPAC" with conductor Keith Lockhart
+ Thursday: The Firebird with puppets from the people who created the War Horse puppets. 3 pm
+ Friday: Another performance of The Firebird
+ Saturday: Sophisticated Ladies -- the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, and Billie Holiday

Wednesday-Saturday 8 pm (except where noted) -- $40 and up

New York State Food Festival

Wednesday: The New York State Food Festival returns to the Empire State Plaza. Food vendors will be set during the day and evening. And there's music in the evening, headlined by The Commodores. music starts at 5 pm -- free admission

Alexander Hamilton and Albany

Wednesday: The 1791 Club series at the Albany Institute has a tour of the museum's exhibit about Alexander Hamilton and Albany. (And then afterward they'll be heading to a nearby spot for drinks and happy hour specials.) Wednesday 5:30 pm -- admission $10

Deja View

Thursday: A new outdoor movie series -- Deja View -- starts in downtown Albany's Tricentennial Park. It will be showing movies there each Thursday through September 1. "Patrons are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to view the movie..." This week's film: Up. Thursday 7:45 pm -- free

Friday: Kenny Wayne Shepherd at The Egg
