Drawing's closed! Winner's been emailed!

The Enchanted City festival is returning to downtown Troy on Saturday, August 27.

Among the events around town that day is Mab's After Dark, an adults-only after party at The Hanger. We have a pair of tickets to the party and we're giving them away. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE. The prize also includes a $30 gift card to Slidin' Dirty and a $25 gift card to Little Pecks.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's something magical, fantastical, or otherworldly about this area?

This could be anything: something that's actually here, something you wish was here, something from a dream, whatever. We'll draw one winner at random. That person gets the Mab's After Dark tickets and the two gift cards.

Mab's After Dark is Saturday, August 27 from 6:30 pm to midnight at The Hangar. Blurbage:

Ladies in finery, men in top hats, burlesque performers, music, signature cocktails, curiosities and more await as we cap off the festival with an evening of enchantment and whimsy lead by the Pixie Princess, Persephone Pomme, and her 'Vaude Villians'. Our favorite band, This Way to the Egress, will be returning this year by popular demand, and Last Day Shinning will perform their original score to the vintage cult classic film Metropolis ...
The Hangar will host this event complete with a full cash bar, and a catered menu. Shuttles will transport festival goers from The Enchanted City festival and local parking garages to the Hangar and back to festival locations.

Tickets are $25 each and available online or at Sweet's Sue's.

The Enchanted City festival on the streets of the downtown Troy is free and open to the public. Among the other events related to the festival: The Troy Mini Make Faire that Saturday at the Tech Valley Center of Gravity, and Of Then and Beyond..., a steampunk fashion show that Friday at the Troy Public Library.

Washington Park, or any park, around dawn or late at night, when the world quiets down and the lights flicker.

The Gasholder Building on Fifth Avenue in Troy. It's an excellent example of Troy's industrial heritage and through the kindness of the current owners has been used as a performance space. Being inside that volume of space is other worldly.

The Hudson Valley is a wild and beautiful place, and I love that some parts or it are still relatively untouched. You can walk the same mountain trails and explore the same streams and valleys that enchanted so many writers, explorers and founding fathers.

The Beaverkill is definitely otherworldly to me. A whole waterway flowing under the streets of Albany? Who knows what dwells down there? Maybe our very own Loch Ness monster!

The dancing couple that attend every Alive @ 5 and Rockin' on the River! So awesome to see.

We all know that little cave under the waterfall at Thatcher Park is a gateway to the Fae world, right?

Troy is super magical- especially at night.

The Albany skyline at night looks magical!

On misty mornings, I'm fairly certain that the little island in the Mohawk nearby Peebles Island is Avalon...

The alleyways of Downtown Troy at night. A mix of gorgeous gardens and inglorious trash that transports you to the Victorian era.

When I lived across the street from Washington Park sometimes I would go over to the lake when I couldn't sleep. Caught it just before dawn once, little bit of fog. Looked like I imagine Avalon would.

SPAC always seems to bring out the magic in the performers that stop there. It could also be the mushrooms I always eat when I'm there...

Cross country skiing at Indian Ladder Farms

There's a haunted hour in Oneida street in Schenectady. And no you would not want to live there or rubberneck it. Experiences are bad.

OK, it's me & I don't qualify for the contest- but come fo the Enchanted City, or the Doctor might come to YOU!

The Adirondacks

The yellow brick road near the Normanskill is like Albany's Oz.

The ADKs in fall.

The view from East Greenbush of the Albany Skyline at dusk.

At night time, the majority of people in downtown Albany *disappear*.....

Capital Hills golf course at dusk!

Two of us camped out on Goat Island (next to Peebles Island in Waterford). When we woke up the next morning, we found pictures of both of us sleeping that night on our phones. Even worse, we could see one of the phones lying on the sleeping bag in the picture that that phone took.

The secret underground tunnel connecting the NY State Museum complex directly to the Hudson River (it really exists, though I haven't seen it myself).

Buckingham pond right at dawn, a thick mist covers the pond.

cave music in dorset was magic.

The beautiful, epic rolling-in rain and thunderstorms.

Star Trek reproduction sets in Ticonderoga. Boldly go...

Ghost signs on so many of the buildings in our downtown areas. An ever present reminder of the history that surrounds us!

The architecture, hands down! The cobblestone streets and historic buildings give Albany and Troy a very magical Old World feel.

The seasons. We truly see it all around here.

Washington Plaza at night. Always a nice breeze and peaceful.

There's something absolutely magical about the Rose Garden in Schenectady's Central Park when the flowers are in full bloom. Waking up early and going there just sit and take in the beautiful sights is so refreshing. It's often empty first thing in the morning, so it's just you and the flowers. Sit in the grass. Breathe deep. Take it all in.

Sitting under twinkling patio lights at Hollwood cafe, surrounded by old brick, enjoying a beer on warm summer night.

I'm fairly certain that the Central Warehouse contains some otherworldly smells.

The Sanctuary for Independent Media is a magical place :)

Being able to see three states from the Thatcher Park overlook.

What's magical about this area is that there are several old buildings and historic sites that are being preserved!

Emma Willard School with blanket of snow on a foggy night reminded me of Hogwarts

The Egg and the fact that there are theaters in there...remarkable to visitors

The Christman Preserve near Duanesburg gets my vote for being a beautiful, multi-faceted nature trail with waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and tall pines. It also has a plaque dedicating its grounds to the memory of a its former owner's late wife saying "She too was beautiful."

The productions at EMPAC.

The overlook at Thacher with its ever-changing views of our fair region fills me with wonder every time I visit -- it is so beautiful!

The never ending amount of outdoor adventures to be had and beautiful, cool small towns to explore in the region.

Zombie Planet is magical, fantastical, or otherworldly.

The natural beauty that surrounds this area is breathtaking, whether it's the Berkshires, the Adirondacks, the Catskills, or western New York. Drive 15 minutes in any direction and you're goin' up the country.

Walking into an empty Proctors Theatre and just gaping at the ornate details. It is other-worldly when it is completely silent like that. An amazing treasure to be sure!

Downtown Troy when I come home from work late at night - when the streets are empty but the lights are still twinkly.

The Palace Theater marquee light up at night

That building in Albany with all the trolls, hobbits, hobgoblins, vampires, imps, demons, ogres, gremlins and fiends lurching up and down the million dollar staircase in search of money, power, and donuts.

The Herkemer Diamond Mines, and my wife.

The Egg

Look to the horizon around Troy between sunset and dusk. Many mini rocketships blast off daily. Take-off is around 7pm this time of year.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
